Lineage of Earth

Lineage of Earth (three grounded bloondline classes) explores the power of elemental earth as transmitted to beings through lines of descent. The product begins with an explanation of what bloodline feats and classes represent in the game: those who have inherited part of the strength of the elemental earth. It also provides suggestions on how to use these bloodlines for campaigns that do not have beings of elemental descent or use a different schema of planes. Next come the building blocks for the rest of the work, five Earthblood Lineage Feats, which represent a character?s ties with the element of earth. Each feat represents a tie with a different aspect of earth, for example Clay Guise allows the character to reshape their features, well, like clay, while Crystal Skin gives a point of natural armor. Having one of these feats is also a prerequisite for taking one the Bloodline Classes or the prestige classes presented in the work. The Bloodline Classes are similar to pre ... [read full review]

Lineage of Earth

Lineage of Earth is a 41 page pdf product that presents three new earth-based bloodline classes. Bloodline classes are special classes akin to prestige classes that allow those with a given heritage to adopt that heritage through taking levels in the bloodline class. It's a slightly different approach to other similar ideas, and one that can work quite well. Lineage of Earth comes as a single bookmarked pdf file that consists of a simple one column layout. Editing and layout is generally good, with no obvious errors within the text or layout. There are a few pieces of really good art by artist A.M. Downs that make the pdf look solid and presentable. The pdf is not graphics intensive, and so should be fairly easy to print out without using up too much ink. The pdf starts with a brief introduction to bloodline classes, and then follows this up by introducing a new planetouched race, the elekin. The elekin are descendents of elemental outsiders, and two of the bloodline classes pre ... [read full review]

Shroud of the Aether

Shrouds of the Aether is a 37 page pdf product that comes with full bookmarks and high resolution images of one of the interior art images. The aim of the book is to address the death of characters by providing a ghost casualty class, or a class that can be taken after death and allows dead characters to continue adventuring as they gradually transform into ghosts. This means that characters need not immediately seek a cleric to cast raise dead, or create a new character and provides other avenues to continue adventuring. The layout and art of the pdf is solid, with some fitting stock art photographs taken to enhance the general appearance and feel of the pdf. Editing was generally good. The pdf starts with a few lines of introductory text explaining the aim and nature of the pdf and then dives into introducing mechanics to allow characters to take levels in the ghost class when they die even though they may not be in a position to do so through normal levelling. It's done in a suit ... [read full review]

Lineage of Earth

The section on the 3 racial classes (one general elemental-kin, one for combat and one for spellcasters) has well done write ups that include suggestions on how to play them and how to incorporate them similar to recent WoTC books. The 12 feats are fairly widespread in use, from combat to crafting. The 3 PrCs are fairly unimaginative, but fill niches that I think need them. There is one monster- a swarm that acts as an avalanche over flat ground (though not as fast). And then there are the example characters, out of the 10, 6 have write ups of their history and possible current events. The other 4 have such long stat blocks (casters, a dragon and a werewolf)there is no space on the same page for a history. Overall I find this a useful and very interesting product. I hope there are 3 more planned.

An interesting product for developing ghosts. If you want to give them powers that relate to shadows (creating objects and combat applications), this is for you.

Though some of the feats strongly remind me of hippies, the general theme is interesting- what can ghosts do when they study their condition and the nature of the universe. It provides a twist, one that many players will have little chance of catching until the PCs have had interaction with the spirit.
