Dungeon World's unified style allows for a lot of creativity, and much like the many custom playbooks for Apocalypse World, Dungeon World's begun getting some great custom content. Funhaver Industries quickly rises above the pack, with a flavorful and interesting addition of the Warlock. The layout is crisp and you can easily print out the PDF to use as a character sheet. Like any Dungeon World character you can be up and running in a few minutes. The Warlock has a connection to magic, but does not cast spells. Rather it has a contract with a powerful being that gives it a minion and certain abilities. It has a bit of cross-class feel, able to take bits of thief, while using the magical influence of its patron – and paying the price for failure. It's a great mesh of mechanics and flavor and a welcome addition to Dungeon World

This Warlock is an exciting take on an archetype that is familiar to many fantasy gamers, but missing from Dungeon World (not to knock on an great game).

I was initially expecting a rehash of the Wizard, but was pleasantly surprised to find a class that has its own unique niche. I was also halfway expecting this to be just a compendium class - a sort of subset or advanced class in Dungeon World terms, but again was happy to see that it is a full class, with Racial moves, Bonds, and plenty of Advanced Moves all its own.

The Warlock deals in contracts, souls, and minions, and the class' moves reflect that. The Contract, like a Paladin's Quest, gives them boons but imposes an obligation on them from whatever otherworldly being they have aligned themselves with. Advanced moves continue to build on these three areas of expertise. I especially like Form of the Patron, which lets you reveal your true nature - a great move for using this class to build your game's BBEG with.

A wonderful class for a wonderful new game!
