The Mystery of the Missing Bodies
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Don B. [Verified Purchaser]

I needed a one-shot style, drop-in friendly, mystery adventure for my group. I reviewed several from the DM's Guild and a couple from the official Candlekeep Mysteries book. This one stood out. We played it on 12/30 but were unable to wrap it up in one session. This was partly due to my group taking awhile to get into game mode (we hadn't played in a couple months) and partly due to some narrative challenges that were only obvious after doing an actual play through.

I would rate this adventure a 4.5/5 stars if I could. I did not give it a 5 star rating because of the aforementioned issues that affected DM prep and game play. These are easily amended.

Glittergold's Guide to Gambling

I wanted some gambling options to use for the Grand Dame encounter in The Storm King's Thunder module. I purchased a few items from DM's Guild, including this one. This is by and far the best out of the lot and is well produced. That said, I thought it could have been clearer when describing the play mechanics of each game. While probably unintentional, this was the only gambling add-on that I found which worked well for VTT (I use Fantasy Grounds). This is because most of the games rely upon dice (aka "gembones"). Other add-ons assume in-person play and rely upon cards or other props that don't work well in VTT. It would be nice if a FG extension could be offered with this.

I might also suggest additional rules be added so each game could be played for chips rather than gembones. I saw a "point" system, but it didn't seem to be well fleshed out or meet my needs. So I improved on this.

DDAL05-01 Treasure of the Broken Hoard (5e)

I just DMd the #1 of the five mini-adventures this week for the first time. This was table top, but I used the Fantasy Grounds module to display a digital map onto a flat screen TV we used for miniatures and a battlemap. Having a Fantasy Grounds module included with a PDF for both local and VTT play is awesome. The adventure itself is pretty simple and does exactly what it is intended to do. The simplicity of the adventure - and the intent that these adventures are to be taken at face value - allowed us to have a complete newbie playing with us (my wife). She was able to immerse herself into the game while learning the mechanics at the same time without getting overwhelmed.

Return to the Tomb of Horrors (2e)

On the whole, I got what I paid for with this product. I needed a digital copy of the original Tomb of Horrors module (which is included in this package) so I could adapt it into my VTT environment. I have tools to export the images and text for re-publication purposes. My only complaint is that the OCR was not clean. This required me to hand edit all of the content. Other than that, it was exactly what I needed.

The Forgotten Realms Atlas (2e)

The original content itself was very useful for any campaign set in the Forgotten Realms. While I purchased this for use in 5e (because the official material is rather limited so far), I found that much of the content is still relevant and very useful for putting local adventures into a global setting. This material is dated so some grace needs to be extended (including the style of the illustrations and maps). The quality of the scan itself is decent. I would have liked a higher resolution scan so I could zoom into some maps without getting a grainy look. The alignment issues also raised by others is valid but not wholly problematic for me.
