This was my first experience buying and running a module in this series. My players all seemed to have a good time with it, and I found the module left various plot points open to return for future adventures (if ever I felt like creating them).

There is an additional mini adventure to continue the play which is also a nice bonus, but decided to move on to a different adventure instead.

My only criticism would be that there are some mighty powerful magic items available to PCs that may or may not work for some. But this module gives good suggestions on how to handle this situation and think it's a good buy overall.

Good adventure. Felt second part was well beyond character ability.

In exploring the ruined fortress, the party must fight through clever and unscrupulous enemies who make the most of their advantages, particularly over non-flying enemies (well judged at this encounter level), foul necromancy and assorted unpleasantness of a particularly nasty cult. The details of the former castle and the decayed lives of the cultists are carefully drawn and contribute to the atmosphere. Varied encounters maintain suspense and challenge without becoming incoherent.

DISLIKED: The adventure contains a series of items (are they magic? psionic? who can tell from the description) that are non-standard to the point where they are difficult to adjudicate. A couple of the setups are just a bit too clever and potentially will just look silly if the players see through them early or don't get the implications that the authors try to suggest.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
This is the first of this series that I bought (due to being the right level for my players), and I'd certainly buy others.

It's got a 1st edition look, but the adventure is more sophisticated really than a simple dungeon hack. What it doesn't do is say anything like "At this point the players should...". By that, I mean that it is refreshingly free from a need to follow a PLOT. The adventure has a background, and can progress towards a climax, but it has pleasing non-linear elements too.

As advertised, an old-school hack-n-slash adventure with the flavor of early AD&D modules. The relationship of some of the maps to their keyed descriptions is a bit vague, but otherwise the quality is okay. The illustrations are very much in keeping with the 1970s ambience. Fun! I'm looking forward to playing more in this series.

A throwback to 1979, this is a classic 1st Edition style adventure without the aimless wandering mosters, plot gaps, etc. Nice job.
