A Question of Loyalty: A Guidebook to Military Orders
Publisher: Alea Publishing Group
by Anthony L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/08/2005 00:00:00

The main concept in this book - a class template for advancement in an order - is an idea that's astoundingly simple and yet no one has done it before. It's a great idea, and I quickly found that prestige classes were getting replaced in my games by class templates - an idea taken from this book.

So even if you don't like military orders all that much - if you find yourself using prestige classes in most of your games, or all of your games, you owe it to yourself to check out this product. You may find yourself using more and more class templates instead.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Advanced Player's Manual (d20 3.5)

As usual, Green Ronin has delivered a killer product. This time, it's a product full of extra niftiness for your games that can be inserted into any typical D&D game with very little or no problem at all. You won't use everything in this book at once, but I imagine most people will want to experiment with most of the concepts here in at least one game.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Lost Prehistorica
Publisher: Dark Quest Games

Easily one of my favourite PDFs right here. The subject of the 'lost continent' or 'savage world' is woefully underexplored in d20 gaming. Or at least, it was woefully underexplored. But this book just offers so many cool ideas that as soon as you finish it - you'll be dropping your PCs into any weird tornado/hurricane/magic storm you can think of to drop them into a Prehistoric world.

The most valuable aspect of this book is just the ideas, and vivid images it puts in your mind. Savage adventures in the Rainforests teaming with dinosaurs and fell creatures just write themselves while you're reading. Truly wonderful to have.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Hammer of the Dwarven Lords

If you like Dwarves, this is the book for you. Or, if you're like me, a DM without much care for them, this book is still for you. For that reason alone, this is a fantastic product.

If you love Dwarves, this product offers a variety of options and concepts to play with. If you're a DM without much care for Dwarves, this product will help you design more appealing, involved Dwarf NPCs.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
This product is just plain good. On par with everything else we've come to expect from Green Ronin's stellar team.

LIKED: Everything. I certainly don't plan to use every single template offered in this book, but every one of them was well-designed and adds great flavour to any game. This is a book no DM should be without.

DISLIKED: I can think of nothing, off-hand, that I didn't like.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Librum Equitis - Volume 4: Sidhe Kin
Publisher: EN Publishing
by Anthony L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/08/2005 00:00:00

A pretty good product, overall. I'm glad to have it, and it was certainly worth picking up if Elves play any noteworthy role in your campaigns (and if you use the Prestige Class option, of course).

LIKED: The breadth of the product is its most appealing feature - being that it has different Prestige Classes for most archetypes and themes an Elf character (whether PC or NPC) is most likely to pursue.

DISLIKED: The Sidhe Knight class. It was the one I was most excited about (being a huge fan of anything Knightly). I was disappointed that it's sort of a Paladin wannabe, rather than something more traditional as I was hoping for.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
At Death's Door: Death Religions for d20
Publisher: Cognizant Chance
by Anthony L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/20/2004 00:00:00

This product definitely accomplished what it set out to do. A new look at death, or more specifically, how death is dealt with religiously.

To be honest, I had long ago gotten tired of all gods of death being brooding, annoying, zombie-lovers with bad attitudes. And I had already taken steps in my homebrew setting to steer away from that.

So this product helped me out with creating more depth to existing gods, and helped me to create new gods as well that are clear of the stigma usually attached to gods of death in other settings and supplements.

LIKED: The book struck me as being thought-out fully, which I appreciate. There were no half-finished thoughts here, this was enjoyable and useful from start to finish. And most of all, I like the scope of the product. It was something long overdue and for as short as it is, this PDF really does deliver what it promises - a new outlook on the gods of death in your world. I would seriously suggest picking it up for anyone who is designing their own setting or at least - they're own pantheon.

DISLIKED: Really, the only thing that would strike me as negative is that the product suffers from some spelling and grammatical errors. But that's true of most products, so it can hardly be held against the author. I have plenty of complaints about Wizards of the Coast and Green Ronin (whom I love) doing poor proof-reading jobs as well.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
