The best way to use this, I think, is in conjunction with Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed; adapt this to the runethane class, and you're good to go!

At least, that's what I plan on doing with it. :)

For being marked as a D20 product I would expect some more rules. For instance there are no priceing amounts for the runeic items. The rules for how many runes an item can have and how long they take to etch are very loose and open to much interpretation. Some of the runes are very powerful while others may just keep a weapon clean, yet there is no difference in the time to carve these runes. Also there were a few references to stats that do not exist in D&D. At best this book is a small source for coming up with unique powers for intelligent or special items in your D&D game.

I love this work! I only wish the author would expand the system to include all magical items. Much better than the standard D&D system for making magic weapons, I'm just surprised it's so cheap!

This is for someone who wants to try osmetbing different with magic item creation and powers. It can be used as a base on which you can expand with only a little bit of your own imagination. I found it useful for magic in settings which are not your straight forward d20 settings.

This is a set of home rules, and it shows. Still they present some very interesting possibilities and for that I'm greatful. I'm always looking for material to take the game to new and interesting places. I'm also supremely unsatisfied with not only the way itmes are treated in the DMG, but the rules for creating new items as well. My hat is off to this publisher for fueling my ideas on this topic.

I was disappointed at how little material was present after I downloaded the file. It's a total of 16 pages. Page 1 = cover, page 2 = authors name, page 3 = forward, page 4 = historical background of rune magic in the authors fantasy setting, pages 5-14 is the meat of the article, page 15 = open gaming license stuff, page 16 is a catalog listing other products to purchase.

The concept of the 10 useful pages is sound, but it's nothing I will use. If you like the current d20 system of magic item creation in the dungeon masters guide, than you will be disappointed like me. If you don't like the current system, this is an option you may like.
