Mythweaver: the Splintered Realm achieves what a lot of casual gamers hope to get in an RPG- familiar set-up (elves, dwarves, etc.), easy combat and magic resolution, and flexibility in character building through some unique, albeit subtle ways (perks and hero points). The gameworld can be as complex as the GM (Mythweaver) allows it, with more and more source material coming in suppliments and through the magazine. Get a copy through the bundle package, and layout the system to your friends. With all of the headaches currently surrounding a conversion to 4e from 3.5 (D&D), Mythweaver offers a more than a replacement system and a unique world ready for player feedback and molding.
Good: The inclusion of new races, new character classes, and on-the-fly spell casting, and signature-style combat moves change perception of the expected rules.
Bad: Four out of five classes are devoted to combat; there may be too much devoted to combat. More skills would be welcome, but may be found in other books.
Overall: Break-out Mythweaver for your friends and get lost in what you remember was good about D&D Red Box!
