Great beer and pretzels rpg. Fast and fun, this light rpg system (BOL Barbarians of Lemuria 2d6) allows players to get in quick on the action. The overall theme of the game feels like every 70s-00s action movie ever made from The Delta Force to The Expendable. As a GM you could easily craft missions and scenes inspired by the ActionAdventure genre. What is even better is that the system is not limited by this genre. For example, in the first oneshot game I ran as a GM, the PC's recovered WMDs that were....not from this world! Injecting SciFi elements. Heck yeah! DOW can easily support long term campaign play especially with an invested GM/players There are no long lists of charts or cross checking tables and the system mechanic is easy to grasp. As a guy with a busy schedule, I don't have 4 hours to run through ONE combat scene (looking at you other rpgs), so for me DOW hits that spot for 2-4 hours for an adventure. Get this game!

Another fun expansion for the BoL system. This game provides a quick and fun game world for playing adventures like the A-Team, GI Joe, or the Destroyer novels.

In addition, it expands the BoL engine to modern days, allowing for easy conversion of other modern game genres (James Bond, Horror, etc.)

A must for any BoL fan.

Dogs of WAR is a game with a lot of potential. The system is quick and easy to use, where it expands on Barbarians of Lemuria it does so well, and there is some nice artwork hidden between these pages. However, the layout and presentation really let this one down, and the game is crying out for a revision, perhaps one that expands to encompass other action/espionage material.

I have a more in-depth review of this game at http://knightsoftheblackbanner.blogspot.com/2011/08/dogs-of-war-review-part-i.html

Maybe not as enjoyable as BOL, a very fun and simple game to play. IIf you like old novels like Don Pendleton's books and others in the same vein, then go for this !

Just like BoL, this game covers its subject matter very well. If you liked reading the old action thriller books from the 70s and 80s you will like this game.

From the same mind that brought us Barbarians of Lemuria, this is quite possibly the easiest modern game system since Recon. The rules are easy, the combat fast and furious, and it's inexpensive to boot. Especially with the current nostalgia for the old 80s action flicks and TV shows like the A-Team, Dogs of WAR is a great choice for a night of guns a blazing. I think the only bad thing about it is the art is nowhere near as good as the original Barbarians of Lemuria. Not even close. But we're not playing the game for the pictures. That would be silly.

The excellent, brilliantly simple rules system from Barbarians of Lemuria has been cleverly adapted to make it possible to play in the modern action adventure genre but avoiding the crunch and clunkiness it is often associated with. Highly recommended!

I love this game! It really captures the flavor of the action books it based on. The system does a great job of emulating the source material. In that it is not bogged down in crunchyness. Allowing the action to flow like the books. Lastly, you can tell the author has the knowledge, and appreciation for the genre. If your looking for a rules lite action game, look no further you have found it!
