Yet another good map from CSP.
Should make a rather nice encounter or den/hideout map.

Fantasy AGE Basic Rulebook
Publisher: Green Ronin
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/11/2015 03:41:08
Out of 144 pages, 143 are the content (including pc sheet, index, and contents page).

Appears fairly easy to 'get into', using 3d6, 9 abilities.
Abilities: roll 3d6 and consult the abilities chart (abilities ranging from -2 to 4).

After spending a few days going through the PDF; it appears 'incomplete'.
The bestiary for one was disappointing. Converting DA monsters to FAGE takes a little time.
It appears 80%-90% similar with DA, with some changes here and there (magic)
The usual typos, errors, etc.

Green ronin need to update this PDF (hopefully soon), and make it worth it's price.
After spending a few decades playing & GM-ing RPGs, it's always good to see new ones appearing (hopefully playable ones).
This one shows promise (it's fairly good, but not great).

It's good to see people making it work with new ideas, house rules, etc (Google+, Roninarmy forum, etc).

Sanctuary's Edge Digital Edition
Publisher: Mechanimus Studios
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/08/2015 14:45:31
At 182 pages, 180 are the contents.
It's a sci-fi western RPG game inspired by Firefly, BraveStarr and similar shows.

The system is 2d6. Roll equal to or above the target number (TN).

There are 7 attributes: Brawn, Acuity, Fortitude, Personality, Intellect, Deftness, Resolve.
Different from the usual attributes of other RPGs.

http://www.mechanimus-studios.com/ is worth a look for downloads, etc.

Don't pass it by; give it a look. It's cheap enough.

At £4.46/$6.95, is very much worth the purchase.

Out of 50 pages, 48 are the content.
A very nice colour PDF with a mixture of historical pictures of the various vehicles, and pictures of tabletop scenes, which seem to add to the PDF.
There are details/stats for over 500 vehicles.

At $9.00/£5.75 it's a pretty good supplement. Worth a look.

Date Added: 07/03/2015 13:50:41
Out of 17 pages, 13 are the content.
The blue paragraph heading font can be a bit of a pain to read.
Error: Page 4: 'They care suited for a variety of genres'. Should be 'can be suited'?
Not a bad version of a certain cyborg species from a certain sci-fi series.

Artwork looks good.
Apart from White Star; I could use it for X-plorers, maybe.

At £1.92, it's pretty good.

X-plorers RPG
Publisher: Brave Halfling Publishing
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/01/2015 13:08:21
The PDF is 40 pages, 37 are the content.
X-xplorers gives an 'old school' feel to this simple D20 sci-fi RPG.
Character creation: 3d6: Agility, Intelligence, Physique, Presence.

The equipment list (P10 & 11) could be more (try Dragonstar & Star Frontiers) for ideas. Primarily Star Frontiers.

There are a few supplements (BD Games do 3).

With White Star out, this appears 'swept under the table'; but, as a slightly 'rules light-ish' OSR d20 sci-fi RPG, I think it still holds OK.
X-plorers doesn't appear to be in Lulu's list any more as POD (or any other format).

For £3.15 it's good. Worth the price.

This PDF is 42 pages, 40 are the content.
You party guide the scholar to some 'ruins'.
Some encounters, a puzzle, etc. Not too bad.
There are portraits of the NPCs; also Maps (some are quite small, need enlarging).
Artwork is OK.
Like the rulebook, this PDF gives me the 'Mekton' feel', in style, look, etc.
Not bad for $5.00/£3.18.
Worth a look.

Exiled in Eris
Publisher: Geek Rampage
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/14/2015 15:04:10
Out of 172 pages, 168 are the contents, including character sheet (2 pages).
It appears to be a variant d20 system, looking at the pages on skills and combat.
Example: Melee (Major Action: Dex+Melee Fighting+1d20); Difficulty: 20 (difficult).
For skill rolls, etc: add your attribute, applicable skill bonus, bonuses from specialties, situational modifiers and add the result of a 1d20.
Compare that with a difficulty/target number from the GM (easy: 16, Difficult: 20, challenging: 24, etc).

I only spotted 2 typos (page 154 & 152), so far.

Plenty of data on the various species, creatures, land areas, etc.
There's a world map (not too bad).

Parts of the book remind me of Mekton 1&2.

Apart from data on supernatural powers, there's also a Game Masters Resources section (premise, alternatives, themes, genre, motivations and rewards, and artifacts).

At £3.24/$5.00 it's not bad for a variant d20 system; worth buying just for the background information/data.

Crimson Dragon Slayer
Publisher: Kort'thalis Publishing
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/15/2015 05:26:48
Retro role playing somewhere between awesome and god awful! (Nice intro).

You start off as a normal person in 1983; but while playing a video game, you are transported to a fantasy land (Thule) reminiscent of Conan the Barbarian, etc.
Much pulp and cliché abound!
This game may be an acquired taste (think of Bovril/Marmite) :-)

System: D6 (think of WEG, and other similar D6 RPGs, etc).
Mix it with OSR.
Some of the artwork does take me back to those dark days of the 80's, reading Howard, etc.

Character creation: 3D6 for STR, DEX, CON, INT, WILL, CHA.
You can choose your previous career before you were transported to Thule.
Page 8-10 generate your pseudonym (have fun with that). :-)
P11, 17: artwork reminiscent of Conan :-)

Dwarf on P12 looks good.
RACES: Apart from the usual Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling; there's Infernal Elf, robot, Reptilian,
Pixie Fairy Princess (you heard right), Crystalline and Hybrid (have fun with that one).

CLASSES: Warrior, Wizard, Thief, Ranger.

Demons: some Lovecraft there methinks. :-)

You roll a number of D6's depending on the situation.
Weapon damage is variable. Sci-fi weapons are available.
Money is cyber crowns.
The usual fantasy armour (and even power armour).

Spells cost spell points.
Wizards can siphon the life force of another to fuel their magic.

Character sheet missing.
Out of 42 pages, 36 are the actual contents.

Players could have quite an enjoyable 80's style fantasy/sci-fi romp.

Argor Fantasy Role Playing Game
Publisher: Draken Games
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/26/2015 17:09:57
Out of 175 pages, 168 are the contents.
It's a 2d6 plus modifiers system (similar to the Decipher game's: Lord of the Rings & Star Trek RPGs, and probably a few others).

The currency is pennies, farthings, shillings, Guineas, crowns, and halfpennies (Ye Olde money).

The one thing I don't like is the 7 weapon skills (sword/club, axe/mace, pole weapon, unarmed, sling, bow, crossbow).
It could just be Melee, Ranged, Unarmed (would make it simpler - to me, anyway).

A fairly good range of skills ranged amongst these abilities (Combat, Agility, Perception, Craft, Knowledge).
Attributes are: Str, Dex, Con, Wil, Int (3d6 for reach).

The PDF has quite a lot in it: Bestiary, Races, Brief history, maps, gazetteer, Linguistics & pronunciation.
It also has a beginners guide, guidance on being a GM, Argor lite & solo adventure, an adventure for the main rules, blank character sheet and pre-generated characters, pre-generated NPCs, a city resource (Caradelm), plot hooks, technical manual, reference tables, and using Argor rules (or the world) in your own games.

There is quite a lot squeezed into the 168 pages.

At £5.13 ($8-$9?), it's worth pretty much a look.

Sage and Sand Post-Apocalyptic RPG
Publisher: Youngdale Productions
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/20/2015 13:39:30
Sage & Sand is a D6 system; with each level in a particular skill giving you a D6.
For example, if you have Medic level 2, you roll 2D6, and compare the result of each D6 against the Target Number (TN) of the task.
Very Easy is 2-6, Easy task is 3-6, Average is 4-6, Difficult is 5-6, Extremely Difficult is 6.
So an Average difficulty is 4-6 on a D6.
Artwork: pencil drawn.
The PDF is printer friendly.

The system has a magic/rituals section (some of it Cthulhu based); so you could have a fantasy setting.
You could change the 'spells' to psionics with some work.

The armour section has 4 types (leather, kevlar, plate, and scale); so mostly fantasy again. You could add some modern/future types.
Weapons: mostly fantasy types again (melee p17, ranged p23).

You could give the apocalypse theme a fantasy setting, as technology is very uncommon.

Although you could use the rules to make a fantasy setting, apart from the apocalypse setting described in the book.

The publisher website has no resources, forum etc, to expand the game. It'll be up to you and the players.

All in all, not a bad system.
Out of 49 pages, 47 are the game (including contents & index list).
At £5.28, it's not too bad.

Iron Age FRP: Core Rules
Publisher: Blackwood Publishing
by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/05/2015 16:23:23
315 pages, 312 the actual book (including character sheet, contents list).

No print friendly version (so 4 instead of 5 stars). Nice page background (parchment style, almost), with a nice border; but a printer friendly version would have definitely got 5 stars.

Primary & special characteristics:
Primary: Muscle, Endurance, Reflexes/Co-ordination, Physical Beauty, Will Power, Memory, Intelligence, Charisma.
Special: Bravery, Mental Disorder, Moral Alignment, Movement, Radiance, Stamina, Toughness.
Radiance is for spell casting. Muscle Power is basically strength (used to carry armour & weapons, equipment, etc).

Races: Dwarf, Elf, Nymph, 4 types of human.
Not for beginners, they might find it rather complex (but no too complicated).
This book will take some reading (possibly twice), to become accustomed to the system (there can be a lot to 'take in').

All in all, quite an involved system; but given time, you might 'get used to it'.
Give it a try, see what you think.

First of all I want to thank you for your review and tell you that a printer friendly version is now uploaded as requested. If you require anything else feel free to contact me :) Additionally there is a help for learning the system available (it still requires some editing, but it\'s readable), my suggestion for new players is to download it. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/139726/Iron-Age-FRPBasic-rules Warm regards, S.A.B.
Darkfast Dungeons: Basic Game

An interesting 'tabletop' RPG, using a D6 system.
The artwork reminds me of the 'Saturday cartoon' shows - (not a bad thing); quite good.

2 folders are downloaded: no 1: the main rulebook & dungeon tiles. No 2: the counters, character cards, etc.
I normally use 210/220 GSM card (depends on what your printer can handle.

The rulebook is a 32 page PDF (30 are the actual content).

Ability/combat checks are 1D6 plus ability. Talents & situations can add modifiers.
The system is simple enough for younger players, and they should enjoy the look of the characters & monsters when printed out.

It's worth getting at the sale price (£6.42).
Okum Arts has a forum: http://okumartsgames.proboards.com/

Date Added: 09/11/2014 13:01:51
Out of the 197 pages, 190 are the book.
It was added here on August 15, 2005 (9 years ago!).
Since then, no updates, or any support, etc.
I've checked their site (Battlefieldpress.com): nothing there.

After reading the other reviews, I have to agree with certain parts: Tri-stat d20 power/traits, STR, copy/paste, etc.
It could have been better, but seems either rushed, or half done in some ways.

I'm hoping they'll add some sort of update to improve and clarify some parts; it would certainly help.

by Stephen Y. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/30/2014 14:11:13
Of the 17 pages, 13 are the content.
No table of contents.
Typo (P12): Under Myths of Many Lands, Hopi shaman (Harpy shaman?). Who knows?

A few pages of CGI cheesecake.
The currency seems to be Srip? Makes a change from gold I suppose.

No magical Items. No healing potions.
A list of appropriate skills is given on page 1.
Some interesting playable races: Skeletons! Orcs, Yumboes (faerie folk), Draco, Felines, Constructs, etc.

I would say the Fantasy8 PDF is open to your house rules. Adaptable even.

As said before; at 60 pence ($1), you can't argue.
Worth a look.

Stephen, Thanks much for the detailed review. For clarification, the Hopi is a tribe of Native Americans located in the Southwestern U.S. More information on them can be found at http://www.hopi-nsn.gov/ \"Scrip\" is a term used historically to represent a substitute for actual legal currency which you can learn more about at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrip Glad to hear you liked the race choices.
