As the title indicates, this well-drawn map set presents a giant-sized drinking hall, surely a fun place to stage a brawl for a fantasy RPG. Even if you’re not planning to run the “Beer Run” adventure from Kobold Quarterly #16, you’ll find good use for this map if the PC’s adventures take them into giant-ridden, frost-encrusted climes. Roberts’s art style isn’t quite as “photorealistic” as the style I prefer, but that’s just a matter of taste. My only real complaint about the map is that the mammoth’s tusks are too thin; at first, I thought it was supposed to be some sort of giant insect (which doesn’t make any sense, of course, since they don’t have bones).

This is another great map from artist and cartographer Jonathan Roberts. His latest offering is of a giant's mead hall created from Mammoth tusks and skins. The art is up to Jonathan's usual level of expertise and the product has been professionally packaged so it prints on both European and US letter-sized paper. All the maps (both color and printer-friendly black and white) are in the same pdf which helps eliminate drive clutter. If you're a virtual gamer, you won't wast time importing the pdf into an image editor, exporting to image files, and then assembling them in favorite VTT. The pacakge includes a JPG image of the map (with and without grid) as well as a Maptool campaign file.

This map-pack comes in two incarnations: The pdf is 63 pages and contains 1 page cover, 1 page how-to-use this map pack.

First, we get an overview of the map, which is a beauty to behold.
The blown-up version of the map for use with miniatures is there in two version, full-color and B/w.
The file also comes with two jpegs, one grid-less, which is nice for guys like me.
We also get maptool files for 4e and d20.
Finally, there is support for poor Europeans like yours truly, i.e. an A4-version of the maps.

Conclusion:

I really love the map, I love the A4-support, the fact that we get a grid-less version and the support for maptool. What it is, it does fine and, quite frankly is a beautiful map. I rate it 5 stars, also due to the low price.

A really beautiful encounter-sized map with enough detail to create a dense atmosphere but enough space to "work" with it. As speculated before by changing the grid size you can use this as regular sized mead hall. I use this package for virtual table top and the additional campaign file for maptool (the VTT I use) is great and makes it really quick to set up a game, but the high-res jpg is just as easily imported into other software. The pdf for printing the tiles I have not used yet.

This product is 63 pages long. It has a cover, introduction explaining what the product is and all that it offers, then it has a single page overview map. Thats the first three pages.

The other 60 pages are broken up into two groups of thirty pages. One color, one black and white. Both are the map blown up to be printed out for use with mini's. There is also a zip file for use with other paper sizes.

Closing thoughts. This is a very simple straight forward product. There is not a lot to say about it. It is just a map and then mini maps with several types for us. It accomplishes exactly what it claims to do. My only critic is I would have liked if the building had been a bit bigger, as in more rooms. Other than that, if you want a mini map for a giant med hall then I recommend it. I am not positive but I think you could shrink things down and use it as a regular sized mead hall too. So with that said for the price I am giving it a 4 star review.

Thanks to Dark Mistress for the review and the 4 stars. I'd like to mention that the product includes high res jpgs for use in virtual tabletop programs and a maptool campaign file, so there's more than just the pdf mentioned in this review. In reply to the question about scale, yes the map can be printed off smaller for use as a standard scale viking meadhall.
