Villages, towns, castles and places for my adventurers to visit. Its really just maps with a couple of tables that you may find useful. No scale is given and that is okay. I'm a smart enough guy to figure out my own scale. The maps are versatile and varied. I am a big fan of Judges Guild products. They invite you to think and create.

This is a fantastic system-free product: just maps of villages, and some small towns, a few of which even have castles! These can be used for any fantasy game system, allowing the GM to get on with the important stuff, like fleshing out the adventure, without having to draw a map of the village, or town!

The scan is very good quality. Each page features a large hex, with smaller hexes inlaid, and the villages/towns drawn out in very good detail. The community sizes, and shapes, vary considerably. This is one of the many JG gems. Don't wait to download this jewel, if you think you might want it... Several years back, WotC had scans of nearly all of the 1st & 2nd Ed. AD&D modules, and boxed sets, available for purchase, and download -- I waited too long to pick up the ones I wanted, and now they are gone. Don't let these Judges Guild jewels slip away. Cheers!

Very interesting product.

When I bought this I thought "Ah, I'll get some 50 village maps. They'll save me a lot of time as I don't need to spend time mapping such in a long time." but I was completely wrong there. There isn't any scale but I think that one hex could be seen as roughly equivalent to 20 or 30 feet. Buildings have been drawn first and the grid has just been added there so a lot of the time a single building occupies a small part on three different hexes... These maps simply can't be just printed and used for DnD battle maps which would have been what I was looking for.

Oddly enough, I still like the product quite a lot. First of all, this is very excellent for anything that doesn't rely on grids as much as DnD. But even for DnD...

All the maps look fine and can serve as a basis to build a village on. I can take any of them, draw it to 5 feet grid and it looks good. The book also has some interesting charts to generate villages with (population, technological level, amount and type of shops, roads, walls, etc.).

The charts would really benefit from a nice amount of extra documentation. I'm still not quite sure I understand the wall generation chart... Or why would I need a chart to generate streets when they have already been drawn to the map... But even as they are, they are a whole lot of fun. An example:

I generated a village with anarchy (=no governmental works), 180 people and 4 shops: Ox keeper, Spear maker, Stonecutter and Cart and wheel shop. Then added some earth walls here and there... I immediately began designing a campaign that starts by players escaping a barbarian slave caravan and with their last strength they are able to get into a primitive village at the borders of the civilization...

Would buy again.

One of those classic products of Judges Guild. For the price, the product is well worth using for the busy GM. Although I own the original, having a printable one is an excellent way to integrate the product into an established game.

This is just a book filled with small villages mapped on the JG hex grid. It has really limited use, but what do you want for 2.25?

As a PDF, fair quality. Typical of a scanned product, really.

As a supplement, quite poor. The idea is sound - a bunch of village maps to do with as you wish, but the maps are not very convincing. You'd probably be better off looking up archeology/sociology links for the basic village types (linear, crossroads etc.) than using this.
