This is a great piece of art. The style is very in keeping with the pose and subject matter. It's very good resolution and the license is great. Very recommended!

Shadowrun Legends: Never Deal with a Dragon (The Secrets of Power Trilogy, Book One)

This is my first exposure to Shadowrun and I'm really enjoying it! The story is flowing nicely and the writing is good. My only complaint is that some scene changes are so abrupt, it takes me a few lines to realize I'm not looking at the same characters.

Definitely worth the buy!

Legends of Steel - Savage Worlds Edition

This is a good little book for playing fantasy that's a bit different than the mainstream. The advice section is spot on with great little tidbits on how to play this kind of game. I also really enjoy the new edges. 'Sexy Armor' made me laugh and really fits the genre. The interior is mainly text and all black and white. A printer friendly version is included, but not all that needed in my opinion. The world is interesting and has a lot of options to explore and the map is very well done. All in all, it's worth the money and your time!

Compacts and Conspiracies (Complete)
Publisher: White Wolf

Hunter: the Vigil is my favorite game and this supplement is pure Awesome!

The writing is very interesting throughout the book. It takes a closer look into each of the core compacts and conspiracies. The compacts each get a new endowment that is very flavorful and very cool. They aren't as powerful as the endowments for the conspiracies, but that's as it should be! The conspiracies also get a few new mechanical things, but nothing huge or game-breaking. The new things fit into the flavor and character of the conspiracies very well.

The part that I love the most about this is the fact that it looks deeper into the organizations. Each group gets more explanation. The sub-groups with in the compacts and conspiracies get more treatment. It tells you who belongs to each group and why they tend to be there. You even get to see, to a greater extent than before, the views each sub-group has of the others within the organization.

Like with all White Wolf books, this supplement is very "take what you want... leave the rest", and that's part of makes it so cool!

I recommend it!

Playing the Market
Publisher: Hudspeth Games

Playing the market is a handy little supplement. At 15 pages, it's a breeze to read. The text is well written and easy to understand.

At first, the mechanic to determine availability and price of items seems very simple and not very special. But once it begins to get into determining the scarcity of an item, that's when it really shines! The system for Modern/Future is understandably more complex, but it also determines how much time will be needed to obtain an item.

I downloaded both PDF versions that were available and was pleased to see that one is formatted to read on a computer screen and the other is formatted for printing. That's a very nice plus.

This is well worth the price and is a wonderful supplement for those gamers who want to add in a little more uncertainty to the in-game shopping experience!

Thanks for the quick turnaround on your review, Devon. I'm glad you liked the supplement. I was afraid it was one of those ideas that was too simple to sell, but I'm glad the nuances are worth the price. I hope you have as much fun using it as we did making it. Q

Dead of Night

Let me begin by saying this product is well worth the buy.

Upon first opening this PDF, I was impressed by the detail of the cover page. The text and the image really set the reader up for what is to come in the rest of the book. The pages are well laid out and easy to read. The way the text is spaced actually makes the 180+ pages go by really fast. I also really enjoyed the horror movie posters inserted throughout the book. It really added a lot to the presentation, especially since this game is designed to run like your own horror movie.

The game rules are also very simple and easy to understand. Notwithstanding their simplicity, there is actually quite a lot of flex and possibilities in them. I haven't actually had a chance to run the game (but will soon!) but I'm very impressed with the rules and how they add to the feel of a horror movie. This book got me very excited to sit down and play the game with my friends!

Races of the Endless Dark
Publisher: Goodman Games
by Devon K. [Verified Purchaser]

I'll start with Pros and Cons:

Cons:

  • The first two character portraits are awkward
  • The races are severely overpowered. They have no quirks or flaws to balance out the authors increases in stats.

Pros:

  • I really liked the character portrait of the Nowyr; very well done.
  • The race background information for all three is very complete and well written.
  • I really like the ability split between males/females of the Nowyr.

Needless to say, the Nowyr were my favorite race of the three. I like the general idea and the background facts of all three races. Like I said, they are extremely overpowered and I will not use them in my game without some editing. The races would have been more interesting with some flaws or quirks; something to balance out the huge "muscles" the author added with racial ability adjustments.

Lastly, it was a free download when I nabbed it... so that's good all around!
