This product was my first exposure to the Fold-N-Go line of printable terrain. The artwork is fine and will work well with a variety of maps and tiles, and you can customize the altar just a little bit (changing the color of the cloth draped over the altar). However, $2.99 for one model is significantly higher than similar products from other publishers (compare Fat Dragon's E-Z Dungeons: Expansion Set 5, a $2.99 set that includes more than a dozen variations on four or five basic models).

The Fold-and-Go series is an interesting concept and definitely somewhat cheaper than purchase of a metal or resin miniature item of similar type. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in the lack of content in the Altar, for the price. While you don’t need paint, you do need ink and cardstock paper, neither of which are cheap. The only additional thing of interest is the layers which allow you to alter the color of the optional cloth piece that can be placed atop the altar. Although advertised as not requiring glue, the candelabra optional piece absolutely requires it. This isn’t a huge problem, particularly if you don’t want the optional pieces. However, if you just want the bare altar you are paying a rather hefty price for just that tiny bit. A pair of black dice used as a prop would work as well. I am not overly impressed with this Fold-and-Go product. It works well enough for what it is, but isn’t really worth the price.

I assigned this a rating of 3 stars, though I wanted to assign it only 2 when I first reviewed the piece. I increased my rating due to the fact that the fold and go series is an interesting concept. The only thing I can suggest is more content for the price.

After offering us the tools to create a basic dungeon via paper minis and the epic tool-kit to create your very own fortress, Brian Bartlow's and Jonathan Robert's latest fold-n-go installment is a smaller offering, namely (surprise) an altar.

Following the cool design idea, the assembly of the altar can be done entirely without glue - only the optional candelabras require some glue to assemble. The altar can easily be assembled in 4 steps, add one additional one if you want a folded cloth on it and 2 for the candelabra. The installment comes with a pdf containing only the pieces and an additional one that also includes the assembly instructions that are, once again, illustrated, making sure that you know what to do.

It should be noted that you may change the color of the altar's cloth via a simple click from red to purple or brown, if you're so inclined. If you want some blood splattered on the altar or some scroll-cases on the cloth, that can also be easily arranged via a simple click.

The pdf also comes with a jpeg of the cover as well as a .studio-file for use with robocutters.

Conclusion: Assembly is child's play and support of different layers offers you the option to create different kinds of altars. I really like the scroll and blood-options, but I also have a very minor gripe: I would have loved to get a white altar-cloth with bloodstains or the option to add bloodstains to the cloth, not only the altar. That being said, for the very affordable and low price-point, this is still a very good buy. My final verdict will be 4.5 stars, rounded down to 4.

Closing thoughts. This is not a typical product I review. This is a 3D terrain you can buy and then fold/glue to make things. In this case it is a alter, in fact you get two of them on one sheet with instructions on how to make it. What I especially loved is the buttons you can click. If you click one it adds blood splatter to the alter top, click another and it adds images of books and scrolls on it. There is also a cloth cover optional for it which has 3 color settings, red, purple and brown. Finally there is 4 candle holders you can put together as well. I printed it out and was able to assemble in no time at all and it looks pretty cool for the price. I am not familiar at all with 3D paper terrain so in all honesty I have no clue quality wise how this stacks up for the price. So what's my rating? Well I am going to give it a 5 due to my limited experience. The reason being is, it is fairly cheap and gives you a wide possible range of alters and it is easy to do and the finished product looks pretty cool.
