This pdf is 6 pages long, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, leaving 4 pages of content. What do we get? Well exactly what the title suggests:

Random acts of Old West violence provide us with 100 (suitable for a d%-throw, old-school, baby!) different acts of violence to kick off encounters, adventures or even just a diversion and an organic environment. In contrast to its predecessor, this one is geared specially towards a theme, the Old West. The pdf does benefit quite a lot from this focus, making deputies drunkenly blurting out information about future robberies, beaten up saloon girls, cattle stampedes and problems with and around railroad tycoons a nice array of ideas you can scavenge.

Conclusion: Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn't notice any glitches. The pdf has no bookmarks, consisting essentially of one d%-array and layout adheres to the 2-column b/w-standard we know from 4WFG. The two pieces b/w-artwork are neat. However, you should be aware that this is a system-neutral pdf containing only ideas and no stats to back them up. I enjoyed these acts of violence and their thematic focus, but on the other hand, the acts could have been a bit longer. They are better written and more versatile than in the predecessor, though. Thus my final verdict will take these improvements into account and clock in at a 4-star verdict. Nice pdf for a some Old West window-dressing.

Endzeitgeist out.

Random Acts of Old West Violence by 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming

This product is 6 pages long. It starts with a cover and credits. (2 pages)

Acts of Old West Violence (4 pages) Here is a chart of 100 acts of random violence for the old west. You can either roll randomly a d100 or just pick some. While the acts are designed to work for a old west setting most of them could be adapted or just used as is in any setting including a fantasy one.

Closing thoughts. The art work is black and white, it is pretty good. Editing and layout is good. I didn't notice any mistakes. There is not a lot to say about the product you basically get 100 two sentence window dressing and while it says violent not all of them are. Some you come across after the fact and some could lead to violence but may not. A couple of examples is, outlaws harassing a bar keep, finding a wanted posted for a local outlaw, finding a prostitute beaten up etc. Mostly they make interesting window dressing to show the world is moving and other things happen other than what the PC's do. I like this one better than the first one in the series. Mostly because I think the acts are a little more interesting and better thought out. So what's my rating? I am going to give this one a 4 star review. If you want a chart of random acts to roll to give some window dressing to a old west setting or honestly any with a little tweaking it is worth the price.

Trust me, I'm a Succubus.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: A system-free chart for western RPGs by 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, this essentially amounts to 100 "if you're stumped"/random encounter charts, just roll 1d100 and go. It's 6 pages (really 4, once you get past the cover and credits) and has no names or stats attached to the encounter seeds, so you could use it for Aces and Eights, Deadlands, whatever.

WHAT WORKS: IT'S A RANDOM ENCOUNTER TABLE. If you read my reviews, you know I LOVE this crap. Roll the dice before the game and BOOM (a few encounters work better with a little set-up). For instance, #22 has a pack of coyotes wandering into camp while the PCs are sleeping. #43 has the sheriff shot after a violent criminal has been brought down. #64 involves a tornado whipping through town. Like I said...I love this stuff. And, it's system free, so it's a simple matter to use it with whatever system you like.

WHAT DOESN'T WORK: A few of the seeds make too many assumptions, or place the PCs in peril without them being able to do anything about it. Now, if you have a group that doesn't mind being shoved a bit, that's not a huge deal, especially in a system like Savage Worlds that has bennies or adventure cards that can be doled out to ease the pain. Some of these involve PCs being scarred by whips or PCs being challenged to duels for the love of a woman.

CONCLUSION: Even if you hate the idea of random rolls dictating where the events of the game go, there's still 100 ideas to run with here in case you get stuck. Many of them are fairly common western tropes, but sometimes you don't THINK of that until you have a list in front of you...and there you go. Thumbs up.
