?Campaign Builders: Modern High? by Rpgobjects is an 11 page pdf designed for the d20 Modern system that helps you set a modern campaign in the realm of teenagers as seen in popular TV programs. This is achieved through the modification of a couple key areas of the d20 modern system.

Popularity replaces Reputation and Allowance replaces Wealth in this re-envisioning of d20 modern. The other major change is the introduction of Interests which replace Occupation for the high school and college and then provides a bridging mechanic which sort of harmonizes the two systems.

Under this new system all characters gain 1 interest whenever they gain a level with a maximum of 4 for high school, 4 for college and 3 for graduate school. Interest for high school include academics, bully, cheerleader, creative, geek, jock, part-time job, partying, petty crime, snoop, student government, and vocational training; at higher education levels law enforcement, pre-med and rotc also become available. Some of the interests like bully have prerequisites though most don?t. Each interest provides a small benefit such as adding a skill permanently to your skill list, a competence bonus to a known skill, or a combat bonus. Additionally each provides an adjustment to the character?s allowance and popularity. Not surprising part time job increases your allowance and partying has a detrimental effect on your allowance (Can everyone name someone that took 3 interests in partying at university and had to sell their CD collection to buy Kraft Dinner?).

When a character enters the workforce the supplement has alternative versions of the occupations found in the d20 modern book. Since each of the interests already provide for additional skills the occupation are designed to convert allowance into wealth. When a player that chooses an occupation similar to the way they played and developed their character, they will earn a higher wealth score. I?m going to quote an example here because I don?t think I can explain as easily as showing you one example.

Celebrity Prerequisite: Charisma 13+ Wealth (talents): The character gains +1 Wealth for each Charismatic Hero talent Wealth (ability scores): The character gains Wealth equal to his Charisma modifier. Wealth (feats): +1 for each of the following feats: Athletic, Confident, Deceptive, Focused Wealth (special): The character also gains a Wealth bonus equal to his Reputation modifier.

The next section of the book offers 18 new talents and 2 new feats. Each of the basic classes include 3 new talents include one talent tree that will result in an increased statistic such as Strength Training. The talent trees are grappler, puglist, strength training, sprinter, natural athlete, agility training, bulking up, intimidating presence, endurance training, book learning, computer whiz, science nerd, common sense, nosey, self-help, mr./ms. Popular, everybody loves you, public speaking. The two feats are Expert in your field, which grants you a reputation bonus to a skill and Trust Fund Baby, which is a wealth bonus like windfall that starts low but grows at an irregular rate to +12 if you can wait long enough to cash it in.

The final section spanning a whopping 2 pages is Campaign models. The suggested settings include Horror High and Ninja High and both include a major opponent CR10 for Horror High and CR 13 for Ninja High.

Editing and layout are strong as with most Rpgobjects releases except ?Principle?. The teacher in charge of the order and management of a school is a Principal.

Strangely for a book about playing teenage characters and using interests, allowance and popularity ? not a single npc using the features of this pdf was presented.

Still the OGC declaration is very clear with the statement ?The campaign model and NPC descriptions are closed content. The remaining text is open content.?, so hopefully someone will bring us a modern high supplement in the future or even an expansion in the Modern Dispatch perhaps.

LIKED: Interesting reworking of the modern system to fit the genre. Interests represent very iconic ideas about high school I really like the strength, dexterity, etc training feat which will be adopted into my modern game.

DISLIKED: No sample characters built using this mechanic.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
