Wow! This book is a great resource for DM's. Forget the stats, forget this is a list of unusual oponents. This is a resource that had my head buzzing with encounter ideas all because of the flavour text around the monsters. What do I mean well lets look at Amalthean Goat entry. It's a goat. Oh and it's slightly magical. I was about to pass on by - a goat wouldn't excite my players! But I read the flavour text, because I had enjoyed the other entries, which suggest that the players might be asked to capture a new goat for a village (as they can't breed in captivity) - well i've never used a goat as plot hook before. It also mentions that they don't live long in captivity - a chance for a heated debate for the druid types... All this from an entry about a goat! And every entry is similarly packed with idea's.
Although this product is set in the Scarred Lands setting There is little here that couldn't be brought across to another setting without a bit of work. The stat's are now out of date with the launch of 4th ed. but for DM looking for some memorable encounters, which are more than the big nasty thing runs at you and trys to kill/eat you, this is a great book.
The only thing I didn't like was the honeycomb design on the page edges as this didn't enhance the book and just increased the page count.
