Classic Fantasy Review Vol. 1 Issue 1 $1.50
Publisher: Goblinoid Games
by Mark G. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 01/31/2007 00:00:00
<Classic Fantasy Review V.1 No.1> by Goblinoid Games is a 7 page PDF for the OSRIC system that offers a number of content pieces for the price of $1.35. This is the first in a series of OSRIC content supplements from Goblinoid Games and is written by Daniel Proctor and Paige Simmons. There are four sections to this PDF including new monsters, traps, cursed items and adventure accessories.

The two monster included in this supplement are a Sothustax demon and a Goborith demon. The Sothustax is a low-powered female demon who often is found in the service of an evil wizard or being worship by an orc tribe. Sothustax is not harmed by mundane weapons. She possesses a mixed bag of miscellaneous magic power. The Goborith, on the other hand, is a large ape-like demon with poison secreting tentacle shaped arms. Both of these demons have a stunted ability to gate other demons, the Goborith can summon creatures more powerful than itself. The next section provides the DM with four traps. The traps include a curse pile of coins, a fountain of healing (short-term), a mist-filled hallway, and a hall of wax figures. The traps are all magical in natural with the first and the fourth being very similar. The third section brings the DM two cursed items to work with. Now to be fair, I love cursed items and have played far too much of my DnD career in Mystara, where sometimes it seems 1 in 8 items is cursed. The curse items presented are bronze gauntlet that transforms a wearer?s arm to bronze and a cloak that changes the race of the user. The last section, Adventure Accessories, gives the DM an Inn and Tavern Name generator composed of Adjective (table 1) + Noun (table 2).

LIKED: Continued Support for the OSRIC system.
Inclusion of cursed items.

DISLIKED: Traps are a bit repetitive and only magical in nature.
The demon?s gate has been stunted so it only works in the Abyss (which is different from core demons who can gate anywhere).

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
