The Genius Guide to: the Shadow Assassin is a 9-page PDF (8 pages if you remove the credits/OGL page) for the Pathfinder RPG written by Owen C. K. Stephens and published by Super Genius Game. This product is part of the Super Genius Games’ Genius Guide line.
The layout is a screen-friendly landscape design, with cover art and 1-column on the first page and three columns on the rest. The two charts for the class are easy to read. The art beyond the cover is primarily black and white showing a lone Shadow Assassin preparing for his work.
The Shadow Assassin is a full 20-level base class built around the ability to manipulate shadows, for concealment, for weapons, for transport and a very focused ability to target and kill a single opponent. They have access to a variety of -mostly small and concealable- weapons but including, oddly, the bolo and a wide range of skills. The only ability that seems unbalanced is Greater Deadly Focus which gives the Shadow Assassin a massive damage bonus against their target, too massive perhaps, and DM’s may wish to scale it back.
The product ends with suggestions for how to weave the Shadow Assassin into a campaign setting, with suggestions for good or evil (or neither) Shadow Assassins. As is usual for the genius guides, the product is a bit too short, some feats, some equipment (magical or not) would really have helped to establish the Shadow Assassin’s role in the world. Except for the one caveat noted above, the Shadow Assassin is an excellent addition to the classes available in a campaign.
