I picked up and read Alchemical Gadgets today. It is a pretty interesting little book. The thirty items are presented well. Each is introduced with a little bit of fluff and then the rules follow. I really liked the fluff giving the item a feel for use in the game.
Most of the items are useful, though, some more so than others.
Most items have a limited use, before they are used up. This makes them great for specific encounters that are scouted out. A few could be kept on hand as well, just in case. Most seemed pretty specific in their use, though. That is what makes this great, though. They are very specific items, that keep game balance in check.
The artwork is well done, and adds to the book. The layout is also very well done, making it very easy to read, and get an idea about an item, with just a glance. At the price, this is a great buy.
