The Hunter - A Dungeon World Playbook
von Christian H.

The Hunter - A Dungeon World Playbook With a good base class and tons of extras this might be my favourite of Dwarfare Games' playbooks. The book opens up with a cmall text writeen from a hunter's point of view, which gives a nice feel for what this class is all about. I would have liked a few lines of introduction on sources of inspiration, design philosophy and style but there is nothing lacking as such. We move right to the class, which moves make me think of a Hammer Horror version of the Ranger. There is a feel to this class not unlike the world of Geralt's 'Witcher' universe or the Winchester brothers' 'Supernatural'. A flexible class that can see a lot of different uses. The Hunter's base damage seem a bit on the low side. I would personally raise it by a dice type. This might be because the Hunter is intended to work in accord with a more hardcore warrior type, for me it stuck out. The Artowrk is limited to the frontpage impression of a Hunter (nice!) and some watermarks showing preusmeably also Hunter type...

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition: Tome of Corruption
von Michael D. S.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition: Tome of Corruption **A Good Release, but not without Issues** I love the WarPG 2nd Edition source books. They are always written with a stunningly grounded and coherent tone that really helps the world and the setting come to life. This book is no exception, in that it does a wonderful job getting into the nitty gritty about Chaos in the Old World, and most importantly, delving into the details that a cursory understanding of the setting might overlook. As an example, in discussing the cults of Chaos, the book talks about the worship of Slaanesh, and how or why one might fall under his sway. The average gamer, slightly familiar with the setting, will know Slaanesh as "the perverted God", who's all about drugs, sex, and rock and roll. The Tome of Corruption dismisses that theory, and details each of the Gods as a fleshed-out and understandable concept, which could serve as a believable point of worship for characters who don't have to be cartoon evil. That's the best thing this book does. It ...

The Chronomancer - A Dungeon World Playbook

The Chronomancer - A Dungeon World Playbook The Chronomancer is a solid playbook for adding some Dr. Who to Dungeon World! And as a fan of Dr. Who I see no downside to this. We get a short introduction to the concept and after that it is right down to the crunch. The mechanics are interesting enough, there's lots of good time shenanigans to plahy around with that makes for interesting time travel related possibilities at the table. Chronomancers store resonance energy equal to either Wis, Int or Cha dependent on their background, using t to fuel their abilities. This is a departure from a straight up spell list that I would usually associate with any class ending on '-mancer'. Alternatively, the Chronomancer can use a system where Resonance is aquired through a move and can cause Paradox, which attracts weird situations and a penalty to making new changes in the timeline. I thought that was brilliant, and I would really have liked to see the Paradox mechanic more fleshed out. The book ends with a small section on new gear,...

The Barbarian - A Dungeon World Playbook

The Barbarian - A Dungeon World Playbook The Barbarian is a staple of fantasy litterature, and it is good to see it get some attention in this playbook. Dwarfare's take on the Barbarian is a little different from what yo might usually see in other games. There's an emphasis on leadership through the 'Chieftan' background and assorted moves. This is an interesting angle, and unfortunantly it's not very well explored in the playbook, lacking some more supporting moves. That being said the Barbarian also has the kind of thing you'd expect if you have ever played the world's most famous roleplaying game, new and old players can feel right at home. I was disappinted the playbook feels too short. There's no introduction, the book goes right into the class, and no real effort to explain moves and the reasoning behind them, something I really like in my DW playbooks. The books ends with a short section on artifacts that seem misplaced. I would have preferred using that space to go into depth with the philosophy behind the cla...

Shadows over Vathak: Ina'oth - Player's Guide

Shadows over Vathak: Ina'oth - Player's Guide An Endzeitgeist.com review The second Player's Guide to the disturbing regions of the Shadows over Vathak setting clocks in at 34 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page ToC, 1 page SRD, 1 page advertisement, leaving us with 29 pages of content, so let's take a look! After an excerpt from the journal of Yarick Eastermann - which, as another, handout-style piece of parchment elucidates, is not in as happy a state as he should be. After a brief introduction for players, we get to know Ina'oth - situated at the southwestern corner of the continent, is protected by the Black Sky mountains...isolated, one could say. Before madness came upon the Bhriota, they settled, breeding with the romni stock - and, in fact, Ina'oth may almost seem like a paradise, compared to other regions of Vathak. The land has seen its fair share of death, though, and as the vindari enacted the genocidal "great cleansing" in the name of their One True God, the land took a breath; of particularly ...

Kemonomimi - Moe Races (PFRPG) An Endzeitgeist.com review This pdf clocks in at 12 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page SRD, leaving us with 9 pages, so let's take a look! "When the kami placed their thumbprint unto the forehead of man, bretahing life into the husks of flesh, they wept tears of sorrow. Looking upon their children playing upon the ground, rolling in the fields of grass and running alone through lush tracks of wilderness, the Kami felt the hollowness of the human heartbeat, thumping alone." This is the beginning of the legend that talks of the creation of the kemonomimi, and it is but the beginning of a rather flavorful origin-myth, which is subsequently enhanced via age, height and weight tables before diving into the respective races. Each of the racial write-ups comes with information on physical descriptions of the races, their society, relations, alignment and religion and adventurers as well as with, obviously, racial traits. However, beyond these, neither favored cla...

Advanced Arcana Volume III

Advanced Arcana Volume III Like the previous two volumes, this one opens with a letter to a student mage from a well-wishing family friend (or is it his step-father... the friend seems close to his mother and there's been mention that his father is dead?), enclosing the gift of a rather tasty spellbook... the rest of the volume being the spellbook itself. As before, the spells therein are organised around several innovative themes. This time they are 'opportune' spells that can be cast speedily when specific conditions arise, 'arcane well' spells that give access to unlimited use of a minor effect but only until you cast the parent spell, metamagic spells which alter other spells (somewhat akin to metamagic feats) and 'ascension' spells which are more than one level at once. You may well ask how that works... The foreword by Kabaz Anvitz is even more philosopical than before, speculation on the nature of spells and of magic itself, and again makes for a good read and inspiration for those spellcasters who ...

Cartomancy 12: The Deep Dark A detailed map of stars surrounding the Sol sector. Similar to the Mars map, it has 3 files: TIF, JPG, and PDF. It details used planets, jump points, and planets containing sentient species. Depending on your computer system, redrawing the map when you increase/decrease detail, or move the map takes a few seconds. At £0.76p/$1.00 it's worth a look (it might give you some ideas, etc).

Cartomancy 14: Red Eden You get 3 files with the download: TIF, JPG, and PDF files. Each give a detailed section of Mars (a long valley/trench-like sector). Each part of this sector is claimed by various countries fairly similar to todays countries (Chinese Heartland Republic, Brazil, Japan, United States Reformation, European Union, Russian Federation, etc). Very tempted to use this for my own RPG system. The PDF file seems slightly slow loading (background, then planet, then the valley section), but it is rather detailed. At £0.76p/$1.00 it's worth the purchase. NOTE: it does not detail vevery part of Mars, just the valley section....

Spheres of Power: Hero Lab Files

Spheres of Power: Hero Lab Files My gaming group basically requires that all players create their characters in hero lab, so I am very happy that Drop Dead Studios decided to make hero lab files available for spheres. I have not noticed any issues with the way spheres works in hero lab so far everything works cleanly and it covers all of the most important things that we neede from the core rulebook: the new classes, spheres powers, and casting traditions. I understand why this only covers the core rulebooks so far. Keeping the hero lab files up to date with all the new archetypes and spheres powers that keep coming out would be a big deal. Still, this makes the files somewhat less useful for my gaming group since we want to use *all of the spheres powers*. We almost didn't use spheres at all since (as of this moment) there is no way to get complete hero lab files for the entire system. There are a few simple things that I think could be added to this that would be more than enough to make up for this being only...

Crawthorne's Catalog of Creatures: Demagogue Demon a.k.a. Tr'ump **I love it when a company has the balls to take a stand and choose a side.** None of that, *"You must do the same thing to both sides"* nonsense. Nobody does this! Nobody roots for one team for half the game and then roots for the other team in the second half "to be fair". Fox News sure doesn't dish out the insults equally, why should Misfit Studios? This is fun and timely satire and is aimed at a target who richly deserves every bit of it.

Chris Perrin's Mecha This is a finely written game that allows any anime giant robot (or armored suit) type of setting you would like to try. Using the combat circle takes a bit of getting used to but the abstract nature allows for everything from simple skirmish encounters to full on city invasions. The focus stays on the characters and the unique, structured role playing cycle allows every character to get a moment in the sun. Three settings, called "setting Reference Schematic" or SRS, are given with great intros and enough detail to take a group right into some fascinating action. I was luck enough to play in a setting at KantCon in KC and discovered just how flexible the system was. Not only did we have four battles (from a simple skirmish to the climatic final battle) but we went through three full role playing rounds where everyone had a chance to explore the town, hunt down hidden agenda's, and even attempt to start a bar fight (which was ever more fun because the the character actually failed to d...
