Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #45: Mutant Dinosaurs
von Wilfredo M.
Verlag: Skirmisher Publishing
Hinzugefügt am: 02/22/2018 09:49:20
Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #45: Mutant Dinosaurs Skirmisher specializes in inventive ideas to be applied in various settings, and dinosaurs in a pos-atomic setting is certainly one of the oddest- yet also one of the most interesting. But the ideas in the book go beyond the obvious; anyone could think about, say, a fire-breathing T-Rex, but here we have, to give but one example, a stegosaurus that turns into a subterrarean predator at night! Also, every single creature includes examples of how they fit in with humans and other creatures in the post-apocalyptic environment. In addition, as usual for Skirmisher books, there are also a few new optional rules, such as a "chaos" effect that warps reality in crazy ways, and advice on using them in a game. This is my favorite Skirmisher product so far this year. Highly recommended, and not just for Post-Apoc games- its a great source of ideas for Super Heroes or Anime, for example....

The Secret of Vinsen's Tomb: A Pugmire Jumpstart

Verlag: Onyx Path Publishing

The Secret of Vinsen's Tomb: A Pugmire Jumpstart This 'quickstart' introduction to Pugmire comes in three parts: a rules and setting overview, an adventure, and a collection of pre-generated characters. It opens by explaining the core concept of the game. In a distant future, human beings have vanished and the place has been taken over by anthropomorphic dogs. They live in the ruins of the world human beings have left behind, now having evolved to walk upright on their hind legs, talk, and have developed opposable thumbs so that they can manipulate items and wield weapons. Despite wearing clothes they are still furry, though! Many dogs deify the long-lost human beings and are driven by the desire to be adjudged a 'Good Dog' by their peers. They scavenge amongst the ruins for the legendary material 'plastic' and attempt to learn to use the things that human beings left behind - even if they consider them to be magic rather than understanding the underlying technology. These are the player-characters of this world. The first sect...

Moat Monsters: A Sourcebook for OGL RPGs

Moat Monsters: A Sourcebook for OGL RPGs Pretty good sourcebook for the price, great stat write ups for hazards, natural plants, and hired monsters to swim your defensive moat. Would have liked more passive defenses and traps, but this is dedicated to the monsters. Love Black Blocks and Pink Pike is disturbing. I never knew I needed to consider the moat until now, but also a great source for water hazards on a dungeon map.

Mouse Guard RPG 2nd Edition This game is an improvement on an already excellent game, and works really well to create the feeling of the Mouse Guard comics. If you're interested in the Burning Wheel system, Mouse Guard also serves as an introduction.

B/X Essentials: Classes and Equipment An Endzeitgeist.com review The second B/X Essentials-book clocks in at 47 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page inside of front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page ToC, 1 page advertisement, 2 pages of SRD, 1 page index, 1 page back cover, leaving us with 38 pages of content, laid out for 6’’ by 9’’ (A5). So, what is this about? First things first: This was moved up in my reviewing-queue due to me receiving a print copy of the book. My review is primarily based on the premium print version of this book, though I have taken the pdf into account as well. Okay, so the Core Rules-supplement in this series was made to divorce the core rules from all associated flourishes, allowing for maximum flexibility and options to modify them; basically, to provide a version of the B/X-rules that can be used to run anything, from scifi, to horror to modern gaming. The Core Rules-pdf thus represents an OSR-DIY-hacker’s concisely-presented basics. But what if you actually wanted the accoutremen...

Village Backdrop: Silver Bluff (SNE)

Village Backdrop: Silver Bluff (SNE) An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment of RSP's Village Backdrop-series is 11 pages long, 1 page front cover, 2 pages of advertisement, 1 page editorial/ToC, 1 page SRD and 1 page back cover, leaving us with 5 pages of content, so let's take a look at the settlement! Silver Bluff is a mining town with a twist - sprung up as little more than a better camp, it began in a promising manner...but then, the mine's silver started to run out. Let’s just say that the local population did not take kindly to these changes and the ramshackle ethnic composition alongside the lack of a governing body mean that this is very much a dangerous place to be. As far as the system neutral version is concerned, the pdf uses proper nomenclature, like thief, etc. and the conversion of the marketplace section is nice. The vast chasm that separates the camp from the mine is also one of the reasons why this village is haunted by howling windstorms, which also influence the dressing habits of the...

Dungeon Tiles for VTT - 24x24" The printed version is awesome! A guy brought it for a one-shot at our local store and pointed me to this one to try for my online game. The last mat added is definitely better than the older two versions included, but overall they're all pretty good and easy to use.

minimald6 Super rules lite, for your personal hacking pleasure. Over a dozen hacks already exist, and they are all dope. Simple enough that you could use it as a pick up game, just need 3d6 and some writing implements. Build your game on the fly using minimald6 as a framework! Great for younger players also.

DDAL07-08 Putting the Dead to Rest (5e) Putting the Dead to Rest – 5 stars. A lot of fun to run! The quest is the quest, and of the Tier 2 trilogy, Rotting Roots and Putting the Dead to rest go well together. This one ran a little long (maybe 2 hrs 30 min), but not bad. If I had done a faction mission it could have gone an extra 30 minutes. Nice story line, good tie in to the Chult missions as well as the hardcover. Let’s face it – everybody has an agenda. Why not play it out. Good balance, and fun to role play (but then I love to rp the bosses)....

DDAL07-07 Rotting Roots (5e) Rotting Roots – 5 stars. Honestly, I would give this adventure 5 stars based on the boss fight alone. I had a flipping blast running it, and my players nearly freaked out when I pulled out the “mini”. A fun module which dovetailed perfectly into Putting the Dead to Rest. Keep the party moving and don’t let them get bogged down in the journey.

DDAL07-05 Whispers in the Dark (5e) Whispers in the Dark – 4 stars. A nice finale to the Tier 1 trilogy. The first encounter really stretched my stash of minis as the characters insisted on winning the unwinnable fight. I had a lot of fun in the role play section prior to the boss fight. Whispering at the game store where I ran this was not easy, but I tried to loop the players into the creepy factor. A nicely scalable boss to challenge the party, and you are done. I found this could run a bit long (3 hours) due to the first fight. I hope to meet up with the NPC in a future adventure....

DDAL07-04 A Walk in the Park (5e) A Walk in the Park – 3 stars. I found this one to be the weakest link in the Tier 1 trilogy. I found the hook acceptable, and the intro okay. The middle was weak in my opinion. Making a multi-day journey just fly by seemed too easy (especially to players who were doing the TOA hardcover with a different character). The final encounter was challenging to the party just because it was scalable, but the building scale size was a bit cramped for a large party. Good but not great.
