Adventures Dark and Deep Game Masters Toolkit

http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=114141

Publisher: BRW Games

What if Gary Gygax had not left TSR in 1985, and had been allowed to continue developing the world and rsquo;s most famous fantasy role-playing game?

Adventures Dark and Deep attempts to answer that question.

We will, unfortunately, never know exactly what it would have looked like, because Gary Gygax did leave TSR in that year, and others took over the job of designing the second (and subsequent) versions of the game. After that unfortunate episode, he was understandably reluctant to give any advice on how he would have carried the game forward.

However, he did leave behind hints as to the direction he would have taken the game. New character classes like the bard, jester, savant, mystic, and mountebank. Streamlined combat. New spells and magic items. Consolidated and re-worked monsters. We don and rsquo;t have many specifics, but we do have a fair number of and ldquo;big picture and rdquo; ideas. All of these have been taken as inspiration for and nbsp;Adventures Dark and Deep and trade;.

Bear in mind that we have no special insight into Gygax and rsquo;s mind on this subject other than what he himself wrote publicly, and certainly the game should not be taken as having any sort of official stamp, either from his estate or the corporations that have taken the game in new directions. All that has been done is to collect the hints he did leave, use them as inspiration, and take off in a wholly different direction than that which happened and ldquo;officially and rdquo;.

Adventures Dark and Deep and trade; and nbsp;is not a and ldquo;retro-clone and rdquo;. It does not set out to re-create a particular set of rules from decades past, as do some other games (not that there and rsquo;s anything wrong with doing so!). Rather, it is a new creation, unique unto itself, and does not attempt to recreate any set of rules that has gone before.

The Game Masters Toolkit and nbsp;contains rules, guidelines, and advice a game master needs to create a long-lasting campaign or run a one-shot adventure. It is the second of three core rulebooks for the game; the others are the Players Manual and Bestiary.

The rules are designed to be completely modular; take what you like, leave what you don't. Want mountebanks and savants but not the new combat system? No problem. and nbsp;

In its most sophisticated form, the pdf has:

and bull; pop-up navigation menus

and bull; fully hyperlinked

and bull; built-in dice roller

and bull; semi-automated character sheets

and bull; one-click character creation

and bull; savable changes so you can have your own library of custom characters, NPC's, vehicles, maps and so on.

And all this is in the pdf, so you do not need anything other than a pdf app capable of implementing it. The forest is dotted with suggestive locations and interesting places to explore.

In this blueprint you will find the maps of the Spiderhaunt Manor (ground floor, first floor and rooftop) plus the cellar with the lab and a dungeon called and ldquo;the Web and rdquo;, below the cellar itself.

Araknos was a scientist and a cleric. He bought Tramygon manor, which eventually became grisly known as and ldquo;Spiderhaunt Manor and rdquo;, one of the most avoided places of the Eerie Forest. Nobody knows why the cleric scientist retired in such an isolate place. Whispers tell that he found a mighty artifact, which he wanted to hide from the rest of the world.
The Eerie forest hermit, Digudus, swore the scientist was utterly mad and that the artifact was a religious relic able to contact the plane of the Spider Queen.
One stormy night, the manor was hit by a fierce lightning bolt, but, instead crumbling to dust it was left mostly unharmed. The day after the manor was desert, no one was found inside. The caravan who usually brought supplies to the manor returned back with undelivered goods. Rumors tell that Araknos freed a terrible demon, which eventually managed to ban by immolating with him.
Since then the manor was plundered by marauders and bandits, but no one dared to enter Araknos laboratory in the cellars.

http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=114729

Publisher: Interjection Games

Have you ever killed a man with a handful of grass? She has.

While some individuals, the druids and rangers of the world, learn to coexist and be one with nature, other individuals, the alchemists of the world, learn to harness nature and force it to do their bidding. The herbalists of the world take a path between these two extremes. Herbalists see the natural world as a tool to be revered, a cornucopia of plenty that needs to be properly exercised to extract full benefit from it. From the smallest shelf mushroom to the greatest of flora, the herbalist knows the inner secrets of all things that grow upon this earth.

Designed to play as an assassin / rogue / chaos druid, the herbalist uses the plants around her as a substitute for spells per day. As such, she is dependant upon her surroundings as a means of power acquisition. That is to say, if she is in the forest, the plants she can acquire are vastly different from those in the desert. Each biome (desert, forest, grasslands, mountains, tundra, underground, and wetlands) has been carefully balanced to provide healing, support, offensive, and defensive capabilities regardless of where the herbalist is.

Now, the idea of randomly generating and quot;plants per day and quot; may seem a bit daunting. Fear not! All the complexity has been boiled down to a few rolls on one of a set of simple tables. What's more, each biome has been summarized on a single sheet, including the functions of each herb in that biome, and each summary sheet contains a handy column for recording just how many of that herb the herbalist has.

and quot;Alright, but what about moving from biome to biome? Won't I lose access to the plants I like? and quot;

Well, yes and no. Though an herbalist will lose access to going out and picking a biome's herbs if not in that biome, she always has the option to plant her favorite plants in terra cotta pots that she hauls around, thus letting her always be sure that certain tactical options will ALWAYS be available, no matter how strange her daily plants pool may be. Further, an herbalist can carry over a small subset of her plants per day to the next day, allowing her to benefit from a glut of an herb she particularly enjoys and giving her the ability to survive the lack of an herb she leans upon heavily.

and quot;Fine, but isn't the idea of having everything an entire biome can do small enough to fit on a page rather limiting? and quot;

Again, no! The herbalist can cook down her herbs using recipes to create new and exciting concoctions, some of which are wildly different from what they started out as!

and quot;What if I end up somewhere that isn't one of your biomes? What if there are no plants at all? and quot;

The notion of an area with no plants is addressed within the class mechanics. If a new and exciting biome comes along, the very system used to create the standard biomes in the first place is presented in its entirety at the back of the document, including the raw, editable tables used to make the tables within the supplement in the first place! It shouldn't be too hard to mix the herbs up and make it yourself with that kind of support.

This product includes:

The Herbalist base class

The Conservationist archetype

The Flowerchild archetype

Eight pages of biome find herbs tables

The Herb Log, containing 69 herbs with physical descriptions and, for many, art

The Recipe Book, containing 22 recipes.

Eight pages of biome summary tables

Complete rules and formulae for creating your own biomes, including the unitless point values used to assign relative power levels to the herbs in the seven standard biomes

Raw .png files for all of the biome summary tables, as well as a blank biome summary table and blank biome find herbs table.

The blank Microsoft Publisher 2003 tables so you can make your own biomes look as good as possible.

Genius Guide to Apeiron Staves

http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=114438

Publisher: Super Genius Games

What In The World Are Apeiron (pronounced a-pay-ron) Staves?

Simply put, they are to spellcasters what a magic sword is to a fighter. They are weapons of war used by the magically inclined to blast away that which ails them. Where the swordmaster passes down his blade to his favorite student, so too does the master wizard pass his apeiron stave down to his star apprentice.

Apeiron staves are magical implements whose most basic function can be used without draining their magical reserves. While they are staff shaped, are magical, and have charges, that is where the comparison between an apeiron staff and a regular magical staff ends. Apeiron staves do not cast spells, but rather offer a number of augmentations to their basic effect. These augmentations do drain a separate reservoir, but even when this pool is empty, the apeiron staff can still be activated to use its basic effect.

Thanks! Now That I Know What They Are, Tell Me Why I Need An Apeiron Staff?

In the core rules, staves are treated as and ldquo;spells-in-a-can and rdquo; and ndash; a delivery mechanism for a specific number of abilities the user likely already possesses. Yes, they let you create impressive effects, but at the end of the day they are simply a different way to cast a spell. We already have potions, wands, scrolls, and a multitude of command-word items to do this. Why should the vast majority of magic item categories simply be different ways to cast a spell? That and rsquo;s where apeiron staves come in.

While most apeiron staves are offensively oriented, a fair number also exist to assist your allies. No longer shall a support character be faced with the question of what to do on some rounds. They can help give orders to their allies, boost their offensive capabilities, lift the burdens ailing their compatriots, and much more.

Cool! Last Thing... Apeiron Is A Crazy-Weird Word, Did You Just Make It Up?

Nope. The word apeiron is Ancient Greek for and ldquo;infinite and rdquo; or and ldquo;unlimited and rdquo;, or more literally and ldquo;without limit and rdquo; or and ldquo;without end and rdquo;. Perhaps its most famous user was the 6th century B.C. Greek natural philosopher Anaximander, which he used in his response to the Pre-Socratic natural philosophers of his age who were debating which element, Earth, Wind, Air, or Fire, was the basis of reality. Anaximander proposed that the basis of reality was actually the apeiron, or the infinite, and attributed a divine-like aspect to it. And so, much like how these staves create magic, he proposed that the universe was itself a creation of the apeiron. And that's why we think the name and ldquo;apeiron staves and rdquo; is appropriate for a type of magical staff that can continuously create a basic magic effect.

Besides, it just sound cool when you can have your character say and quot;Fear not this savage horde my friends, now that we have recovered my Apeiron Staff of the Spectral Hero, a mighty champion of legendary Mar'Kan shall fight with us this day! and quot;
