Gold&Glory: Seven Deadly Dungeons (Deluxe)

NOTE: This version is for Savage Worlds Deluxe, NOT the for current edition of Savage Worlds. The current edition is Savage Worlds Adventure Edition.

Welcome to a world of legendary heroes and daring feats or, more probably, to a dishonorable story of ill-fated treasure hunters who’ll soon bite off more than they can chew… unless they manage to return home with enough gold to carouse wildly until their next expedition!

Gold & Glory is not your usual Savage Setting in that it is not really a setting at all, and it doesn’t want to be one.

Gold & Glory is a method, and a toolbox, to enjoy the Fast, Furious and Fun rules of Savage Worlds in a game of classic dungeon exploration, in the spirit of the Old School Renaissance, with no other book needed besides Savage Worlds Deluxe.

It is ideal to play one night games as well as longer campaigns and allows you to play with no preparation at all.

Gold & Glory: Seven Deadly Dungeons includes:

  • A random character generation system to start playing in no time

  • New equipment for dungeon delvers

  • Magic and Miracles Arcane Backgrounds to create classic arcane characters in the FFF spirit of Savage Worlds

  • Downtime activities such as Carousing and Magic Research, tied to the Experience system, to keep your heroes busy between one expedition and the next

  • The Dungeon Deck system to generate your dungeons while you play

  • Seven deadly self-generating dungeons for your heroes to explore!

  • More than 30 new monsters to face and a heap of magic items to loot!

“For years, many people have claimed that Savage Worlds can't do dungeon crawls. Gold & Glory proves otherwise. If you like Savage Worlds and dungeon crawls, you need this book” Richard Woolcock

“Gold & Glory scratches the old school fantasy itch incredibly well” Nathan Carmen

“5 out of 5. I love this” Andy Slack (Halfway Station blog)

“The best Savage Worlds book I've ever used, and my favourite OSR system. I love the random character and dungeon generator!” Bartek E.

“The system is brilliant! There are also some more things included to make your SW session work like the classic dungeon crawling games, and the experience system I think it's beautiful in it's simplicity” Carl B.

"I had 0 prep outside of reading through the book once. The game was a massive hit! All the players loved it including the one who was skeptical of it to start.Generating a dungeon with this system was easy to pick up during the game without even a dry run ahead of time. The book met and exceeded all my expectations." Patrick A.

Looking forward to giving this a try solo. How many player characters are suggested for these scenarios? I am assuming 4-6?

Well yes it's designed for your average group of 3-5 players. BUT at the same time the idea is that the game balances itself with players figuring when to fight and when to run for their lives.
Also, in 3 or less players, maybe a bunch of hirelings (Extras) can be very handy!

Also, how often do I check on wandering monsters? Do I only roll a d20 every time a HEART card comes up, and if a 5-9 shows up? I'm assuming I roll as many times as a HEART time comes up in the Wild Dungeon draws.

You check every time the group lingers in a room.
Every time they waste more than 10 minutes poking things, you roll a d20. If the die result is 5 to 9, you read the corresponding result on the Hazards table, that's the monster(s) that show up. (It has nothing to do with cards)

Hi! Just wanted to be clear about character advancement. I see the amount of XP/gold to get an ADVANCE - on Novice its 50 xp/gold per advance. But how do I get from Novice to Seasoned?

You get to Seasoned at your fourth Advance, as per standard Savage Worlds rules.

Hello!
We just published Savage Worlds in Italian, and all the updates are on the desk.
Like Giuseppe said, G&G is going to be updated. If a new item will be published, a special discount will be sent to everybody who supported the first edition.

This is an odd question, but how do you know who to send the discount codes to? I know of someone who is getting into SWAG publishing, and they were wondering how to send discount codes to specific people and that sort of thing. Do Aces have access to customer lists?

Hello Matt,
as far as I know Aces do not have any sort of access to customer lists. Publishers have a lot of tools on drivethru/rpgnow though, we can create a special discount for the updated version, and send it to everybody who bought the previous version. That's probably what we are going to do.

New SWADE rocks, I guess you can enjoy a few games of the good old one while waiting for the update :)
And if you have feedback about Gold&Glory, that's the right moment to send it to us!

Ah I see, it must be a publisher functionality available to Aces but not SWAG publishers since the latter is a "community content" type of program. Thanks!

Thanks, Gio D. The email has been sent.

I wonder if the fact that I had purchased the original Gold&Glory on my RPGNow account had anything to do with it. My DriveThru and RPGNow accounts used different email addresses, so the accounts never got merged. With the vast number of accounts and sales records that combined, I'd be surprised if a few things didn't get lost in the transition.

I really like the idea behind this book, unfortunately I am somehow not able to grasp the Dungeon Deck system to create a dungeon on my side (Chapter "Value: Size and Exits")

I understand the part which determines height, width and the number of exits.
Then we take a look at if the exits have doors or not.
But how do I know when to check if the room is a wide cavern or a cavern with tunnels?
I am missing the link where a room is determined if beeing a cavern or not beein a cavern, could you help me out on this one by chance?

As a second question, in the example on page 51, the lower right room has mostly red cards - 3 Clubs, 4 Hearts, 2 Hearts (the adjacent room has mostly red cards as well) but still there is a door. Why?

I would really love some advices here :-p

Hello Steffen!
The paragraph on page 46 ("Values: Size and Exits") assumes you have decided if you are generating a dungeon proper (built by someone, that is), or a natural cavern. This same distinction is evident in the Seven Deadly Dungeons in the book.
So if you are going to generate a "dungeon proper", the "Dungeon Doors" paragraph on the same page tells you whether a given room as doors.
Likewise, the "Caverns" paragraph tells you wether an area is a wide cavern or a section of narrow tunnels.
The example image on page 51 shows a cavern, so there shouldn't have been doors in the first place! Maybe that's why the system confused you.
Hope I've clarified your doubts!

Hello Juan!
The maps shown inside the book are there as an inspiration -the actual maps for the seven dungeons are supposed to be generated by you, using the Dungeon Deck system, so that you and your players can enjoy endless adventures!

I don't doubt it. RPGNow was acting goofy when I had the problems. At first it wouldn't even download at all, but when it finally let me, the file was bad 3 times in a row. Then another problem later which would take too long to describe. But I finally got a good file :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
