Wilderness Locations

Between the shining cities of the coast; between the villages and castles of the land; between the mines of the dwarves and the lairs of the trolls - there is Wilderness.

Far from civilisation, adventurers discover locations that bring adventure, treasure...or death. Wilderness Locations is a set of four isolated locations that are ideal for wilderness adventures.

Wilderness Locations is a printable battlemap compatible with any RPG/Dungeon-Crawl game. Use as a standalone gameboard, or combine with any same-scale tileset.

Wilderness is a geomorphic set, comprising 4 10x10 square battlemaps which can be arranged in multiple layouts. Each tile can be used on its own, or can be matched with tiles from our Wilderness, Highway, River, Forest (and more!) geomorphic sets.

Wilderness Locations includes:
The Ruined Tower - the lower floor and walls of a long abandoned tower
The Bandit Camp - bedrolls, loot, a campfire. What else does a bandit need?
The Stone Circle - Ancient standing stones, the site of countless rituals
The Tumulus - The burial mound of a long dead king. Includes map of the grave inside the Tumulus.
Uses
Ruined Tower - overgrown watch tower; ruined wizards or witches keep; the outpost of a fallen kingdom; hide amongst the rubble of a lost civilisation; lift the grille and explore below...
Bandit Camp - ambush the hidden outlaws; sheltered grove for your party of travellers to rest overnight; hide in the bushes; clearing in the woods
Stone Circle - attack the witch at her summoning henge; ancient dolmens; magic standing stones; perform druidic rituals; fight monsters entering through this ancient portal
Tumulus - break into the grave; gallery grave; fight the ghost in the cursed tomb; steal the tribal leader's enchanted treasure

Also included is a set of 300dpi full size jpgs, for poster printing or VTT, in both gridded and non-gridded versions. (n.b. gridless version only available as full jpeg).

About Heroic Maps

Our game boards were originally designed to be used with Heroquest.  That's why you'll notice we don't mark the doors or add furniture - you can put these wherever you want them, using you favourite system (paper or 3D).  This will mean the board can be different every time you use it. You can download our free door pack here.

Heroic Maps boards are flexible enough to be used with many game systems.

Heroic Maps are well designed with excellent detail and a very realistic natural color palette. Lots of options for printing with or without grid. The grid is sublte so it does not destract from the beautiful map textures. Highly recommend [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
