"This is one of those rare purchases that I honestly think should be more expensive and it would still be totally worth it." - Humanitarion Orc

"It might just be the perfect introductory adventure for folk new to tabletop and to the Dungeons Crawl Classics RPG in particular." - Just Another Old School Gaming Blog (full review below)

The tiny village of Bitterweed Barrow is unaccustomed to mysterious tunnels, missing halflings, or the need for brave adventurers, but now it has all three! Can a band of gong-farmers and shoe-cobblers muster the courage to descend into the darkness and confront the terror that waits beyond Nebin Pendlebrook’s unexpectedly perilous pantry?

Designed to be completed in a single furious session, this Instant Action 0-Level Dungeon Crawl Classics adventure drops your players into peril straight away. Dangerous foes, wicked traps, and ancient secrets await!

Features:

  • 42 pages of classic 6'x9' digest-format old-school b/w dungeon fun!
  • Designed to be completed in a single 4 hour session, perfect for convention or demo play, but with enough hooks to become a centerpiece for your beginning campaign.
  • 37 page appendix contains paper miniatures of every combatant, initiative cards, battlemaps of the entire dungeon, and printable pics of every image in the adventure.

About the Author

One afternoon while strolling through a local bookstore,  Mark Bishop's daughter picked up the D&D Red Box set and asked, “Hey dad... what’s this?” That innocuous question triggered long-forgotten memories of Mark's younger days: rainy afternoons scarfing pizza while rolling funny-looking dice and delivering critical hits to treacherous gelatinous cubes. He soon taught his daughters and their friends how to play, eventually finding himself running RPGs at the local gaming stores and conventions. Dungeon Crawl Classics reminds him of the game he first fell in love with, and has inspired him to create an adventure which rekindles those feelings from so long ago. He lives in east-central Kentucky with his wife, two daughters and their two cats, Kirk and Spock.

I got the book. Do I need the map pack with the 3 maps? I am confused what is that for and if I need it. Thanks!

By ‘map packs’ do you mean the 3rd party battlemaps created by the Middle Kingdom Trading Company? Those are fantastic works of art, and will look great if you use miniatures, but they are completely optional. The adventure comes with everything you need (including simpler battle maps) to run it.

What is the ideal number of 0-level characters that this adventure should run with? 10-15? 14-20? 20 or more?

DCC is not terribly interesting in precise balance, but the usual number would be 16-24 zeros to start, Since zero's lives are so dependent on dice rolls, things can swing wildly at times,so you might need to add or subtract a foe here or there along the way to maintain the recommended 'whittling down rate'. It all depends on your style and what you're trying to do as a judge, but having 8-10 characters surviving for the final battle is a good number to shoot for. You can find more adventure tips like this in the adventure appendix!
