Battle for Oz

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

You're Not In Kansas Anymore....

A new Wizard is enthroned in the Emerald City but his intentions are purely wicked. Heartless Tin-Men soldiers police the lands while sinister Straw-Men assassins instill fear in those who oppose his will.

"Battle For Oz is what you get when an Oz movie is set in modern times with Dorothy’s butt-kicking daughter played by Scarlett Johansson, Ron Perlman is the No-Longer-Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow is played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Toto is a gruff one-eyed CGI terrier voiced by Sam freaking Elliot, and the new Wizard makes the Wicked Witch look like a misunderstood girl with a complexion problem (where have I heard that before). Except it’s not a movie, it’s your story, and you have to save the Emerald City. So armor up, grab a weapon, and march down the Yellow Brick Road because Oz… just got Savage!"

-Clint Black, Brand Manager for Savage Worlds and creator of Necessary Evil

jsl-battle-for-oz-amber-gale-zps6254e871.png

Battle for Oz uses the original canon of its creator L. Frank Baum, but with a new modern spin and just a touch of fantasy horror. Players can take on the role of a Lion-Man, an outcast Winged Monkey, a Clockwork, a Patchwork, an  ancient Oz native, or just an outsider from the "normal" world following in the footsteps of Dorothy Gale, all banding together to fight to free the lands of Oz.

"At 200 pages – chock full of deep-cut world book information, advanced rules for character creation and game play, and the state of the Land of Oz in the Days of Ozymandias the Second – Battle for Oz is no mere Plot Point Campaign book. Sure, that’s in there – and it’s solid – but this is the book every Savage fan needs if they want to explore and experience the Land of Oz in a kickass, fight-for-your-lives (and freedom) way. Battle for Oz may be the most unique and mind-flipping Savage Setting since Low Life…”

 – Sean Patrick Fannon, Creator of Shaintar

Battle for Oz is a complete game setting built for the award-winning Savage Worlds rule-set published by Pinnacle Entertainment Group, therefore you will need the Savage Worlds core book to play the game. Battle for Oz details the entire land of Oz, which is just a small part in the center of a larger continent called Nonestica. The Battle for Oz book contains everything a GM and a player needs to adventure in and explore Oz including:

Seventeen unique races - including their background, culture, racial edges, and distinctive appearance.

New Arcane Backgrounds - Oz is rich in magic and all of the Arcane Backgrounds have been altered to reflect the setting, such as the Scar Mage, Fae Druid, and the totally unique Minstrel.

A complete history of Oz - from ancient times through the time of Dorothy, and up to the present day.

Fantastic new edges, skills, and powers - like Alchemy, Crystal Lore, and Technomancy.

Twenty two distinct Archetypes - for the player who just wants to plug and play, this system allows you to pick or random roll an Archetype, choose a race and your done with character creation in minutes!

New and expanded setting rules - including Bonus Raise Damage, Weapon Proficiencies, Gem Setting and Potion Making.

A complete detailed list of all of the major areas of Oz - including maps, important NPC's and encounter tables  for those who just want to explore.

A complete plot point campaign - designed to take players from Novice to Legendary and strike a major blow towards the defeat of the new evil Wizard.

A complete bestiary and NPC section - with detailed stats and character descriptions making even the most unprepared GM look good.

Cover to cover art in both black and white and color - that immerses the reader in this fantastic world taken from the pages of one of the most recognizable fantasy lands in American literary history.

I bit the bullet and ordered the book. I don't enjoy paying so much for a POD title. I have done it a few times though. I chose the softcover premium because I think there is an issue with the hardcover book cover pulling away from the book and splitting at the spine. The soft covers hold together better and cost less.
This looks like a great title. Was this kickstarted? This title has had little or no presence online. I just stumbled across this book. Savage Worlds titles are selling atm. I'm excited to see what this book is about. I'll certainly post a review when it arrives.

Pirate Press PLC was listed as a JumpStart Contributor in the Kickstarter, I believe they are working on a SWADE conversion guide or some sort of Quickstart.

Do they even exist as a company anymore? I know that I never received all the digital rewards from the Kickstarter.

The partnership that created the book has dissolved but one half of it, Dan, is working on new material. Anyone that was forgotten or missed in digital rewards will be looked after once the SWADE version is complete.

Lior, Im a little at a loss on how to help you at this point. I sent you books,... twice now. The second time, I payed for expedited shipping and tracking and it appears that the books where returned to sender despite the fact that you have told me the address is good.

Please email me directly at piratepressllc@gmail.com and we can work it out together. Perhaps an alternate shipping address? Perhaps a book voucher allowing you to order the books directly? I am happy to help any way I can but I dont want to keep sending book after book at my expense if your not receiving them at the address I have on file for you.

I have been looking forward to this for a while now and even though I received my copy a few months back I was waiting until I finished it cover to cover as it is a pretty thick book with lots to take in. That said, my hopes were high and this product lived up to them and surpassed them. The world is very rich that they have created and it seems that they have found a beautiful mix of the world of Oz and fantasy roleplaying. Well done guys, well done!

I backed this product via the Kickstarter; was supposed to receive a physical copy of the book but I never did.
I wrote to them and they replied saying something went wrong with the shipping and they would check with DriveThoughRPG. This was in early September.

Since them, every about 2 weeks I send them a nudge and got no reply.
I'm quickly loosing hope I will ever get this product which I already paid $60 for ($40 pledge +$20 for an extra hardcover)

I hope there is something wrong with their email; otherwise, this is plainly just ignoring a customer and very unprofessional.

Posting here is my hope that at Pirate Press LLC will read it and I can finally (a year late) I can maybe get what I have paid for.

Sorry about that Lior. I have had several problems with Drivethru books. I have had problems with our email, but that's not an excuse, because I have been neglecting our Kickstarter messages. (where I would have seen your emails).
Despite getting any kind of resolution from Drivethru, I have just reorderd your book with UPS (I should get a tracking number) and will just eat the cost. I will send you the tracking number as soon as I get it.
Sorry again about the delay.

Dan:

I thank for trying to help. But now, it's been almost 3 months, and I have still not receive this.
Can you please check the tracking number?

Also, I still live in the same address; for now, although I might be moving soon.
I do have a different P.O. box which might work.

This process is becoming a little frustrating.

but I do appreciate trying to help.

The when is the last half of this year. We are working on a budget and schedule right now for the Kickstarter page. The what is a supplement book with a current title of the "Oz Field Guide", but that may change. It will be a smaller book than our core book obviously, but will detail 3 or 4 larger cities as they exist in the Battle for Oz with maps and important NPC's, as well as a large new bestiary. It will have some new Battle for Oz backstory, new technomancy gadgets, gear, edges, hindrances, and skills.

Leafing though the pdf, I am wowed by the artwork! Background story is tight and lots of room for sandbox play. You never can go wrong with Savage Worlds.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
