MUTANT: Year Zero - Roleplaying At The End Of Days

ADD TO WISHLIST >

We walked among the gaping ruins and rusty car wrecks, monuments to the fall of the Ancients. Naphta had been taken by a Deathworm and the Rot had driven Hugust insane. We had no grub left and there was only rotwater to drink. But we had to keep going. We had to find Eden. We could not return to the Ark empty-handed, the fate of the People rested on our shoulders. Suddenly, Franton, the insect-like Stalker leading our way through the wasteland, stopped. “Zone-Ghouls”, he hissed, drawing his scrap rifle. I inhaled, ready to spew out a cascade of flames at anyone who dared come close. In the next instant, a chilling shriek rose from the ruins around us.

Mutant: Year Zero takes you to the world after the great Apocalypse. Humanity’s proud civilization has fallen. The cities are dead wastelands, winds sweeping along empty streets turned into graveyards. But life remains. Among the ruins, the People live. You are the heirs of humanity – but not quite human anymore. Your bodies and minds are capable of superhuman feats. You are mutants.

The Mutant RPG franchise has three decades of rich history in Sweden, with the first edition released in 1984. This is the game that later developed into Mutant Chronicles to widespread acclaim. Now, for the first time, a version of the original, post-apocalyptic shade of Mutant is released to an international audience. This brand new version of the classic game contains material for hundreds of hours of game time:

  • 269 page full colour core RPG rulebook - everything you need!
  • Create a unique mutant player character – including skills, talents, mutations, gear and relationships – in mere minutes.
  • Push your character’s skills to their limits, releasing amazing mutant powers in the process.
  • Fight fast and furious battles, making every bullet count and using a detailed list of gruesome critical injuries.
  • Set your game in one of the Zones provided – The Big Smoke and The Dead Apple – or create your own Zone, based on your home town.
  • Develop the Ark – your settlement in the Zone – by undertaking Projects, building a new society.
  • Explore the Zone using the grid map and the unique sector generation system that populates the Zone with mutants, monsters and phenomena.
  • Experience the five Special Zone Sectors – scenario locations that can be placed in any sector of the Zone.
  • Search for the mysterious Eden bunker in the Path to Eden campaign frame provided, which includes an epic finale.

Good day,

Do you sell print and play versions of your gaming cards for MY0? I would buy the hell out of them if you did.

I bought this through the bundle but have been unable to download it. No matter what computer or phone I try to I keep getting the same error message:

FAILED - {"error":"The requested source file could not be found.: /data/rawpdfs/rpg/Free League Publishing/Mutant_Year_Zero_3rd_printing.pdf"}

Really hoping this gets fixed ASAP so I can download my purchase!

Does it include the cards? Do you really need to use the cards?

No but you have tables in the back of the book that replicate the cards and you can simply roll a dice to get the result. Of course people like drawing cards ;-)

I was just going over the second printing of the Mutant Year Zero Corebook PDF and noticed a small error.

Stunt: When setting up a sneak attack, you get a –1 modification to your first attack for every extra

The First printing reads +1 modification.

seriously guys ..
why do you guys not add a print on demand option?
people will pay for it.

everyone seems to want their hard or soft cover copy but all you have is pdf.
losing sales can't be part of your market strategy surely.

Hi Des, we don't offer print on demand because we sell print production copies from our webstore at http://www.modiphius.net/collections/mutant-year-zero and the books are also available in retail.
There will be more stock hitting North America in the near future however we like to print a certain style of stock for this book and using print on demand is not suitable for us as a publisher since the costs are so high

Can we expect a print on demand option in a foreseeable future? The physical book is not easy to come by in Canada...

Well, the preview looks pretty good. The production value seems to be fairly high. However, the preview gives me very little information about the actual rules. If I buy this I will be the GM, but I want more info on how the rules work before committing the funds. I know it is a d6 system that uses different color dice, but that's about all I know. How robust is the combat system? Is this one of the currently popular "rules light" games or more traditional? I like the setting and am intrigued by the possibilities, but need some more info. Why provide a preview with so little info about the rules?

Any chance that you'll do a second pass at editing this? Spelling and grammar is largely fine, but there are many references to things that don't exist (such as chapters 17 and 18). This would be alright, except that there are also references to chapters that do exist but are mislabeled. An early example is "Read more about artifacts in Chapter 16." (pg. 13). This should be chapter 14. I assume artifacts were originally chapter 16 in an earlier draft but that is not the case for the finished product. This makes referencing different sections unnecessarily difficult.

Otherwise, an excellent product and game. Disregarding editing, I'm very happy with my purchase.

I played the earlier versions of Mutant before this new one(Swedish only). The version I played was Mutant UA or Undergången Arvtagare(Translation:Undergången arvtagare = Heirs of the Apocalyse).
Me and my friends played the f%¤k out it. The setting was intereseting, the rules were quite easy to understand, character creation was quite enjoyable and there were so many supplemental source and adventure books.
There was so much we could play around with.

Now for those of you who can get your hands on one of the original books of Mutant UA, you may notice that the rules have been dumbed down alot. It used a modified variant of d20 system. I must say that this is a huge improvment over the UA version. It has become much easier to run a game and keep things organized.
But as for the mutants/characters them self, all the races were available from the start in UA. They were the Humans, the Mutants, the Psi-mutants and the Robots.

That would have been an excelent game to...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
