The Entropic Gaming System is a new tabletop role-playing rules system for any genre and subgenre. Its baseline design is meant to embrace Shadowed Earth, allowing for multiple eras and influencing genres to utilize the same set of mechanics with little to no changes necessary. Designed with the principle of allowing maximum flexibility with fewer rules, characters can vary widely while still retaining the depth of their background, providing players with the means to translate their character concepts into something fully usable on the tabletop.

Using an escalating dice mechanic, from d4 through d12, a combination system that allows Skills to be combined with different Abilities to produce any possible action, character Qualities that can be used in-game to produce bonuses through Hero Points, and very flexible mechanics for combat and Talents, EGS keeps the rules medium while presenting players with more options and flexibility!

Whether it’s fantasy, sci-fi, modern action, pulp, or horror, the Entropic Gaming System can handle them all! Powered by the Open Gaming License, fans and Third Party Publishers can take advantage of the simple mechanics to make EGS THEIR game.

This Entropic Gaming System revised core rulebook includes:

  • All core mechanics.
  • Character creation.
  • A list of equipment.
  • Magic and Technology system known as Talents.
  • Gamemastering guidance.
  • Common adversaries.
  • An introductory adventure.
  • … and more!

Play in your setting, grab one of ours, or jump into a quick Entropic Adventure and experience the flexibility of the Entropic Gaming System that allows the game’s mechanics to conform to your character concept!

Uh. Silly question- what is the difference in the pdf files? PF is printer friendly I'm guessing? What are the other two?

Bump. Two files, exact same file size, one called MYL40004ML_Entropic_Gaming_System.pdf, one called MYL40004FC_Entropic_Gaming_System.pdf. The copyright page says they're both the Revised 1st Edition. Any difference must be small, but if one is errataed and one isn't it could be pretty darn important!

Hi, the ML = Multi Layer. In Acrobat Reader you can enable and disable different layers in the PDF. Good when printing it, so you can set the amount of ink you want to use.
PF is Printer Friendly, a good medium setting AFAIK when printing the file.
FC = Full Colour, so this is the full blown version, heavy on ink.

Any chance for an unsecured PDF?
I hate it when I can't colorize/bookmark my bought PDFs.

I'm not sure what you mean as I never secure my PDFs. If there is some type of security in it, then it's been added by RPGNow. When I look at the PDF I uploaded to RPGNow, it states "Security Method: No Security". Check the security settings again on your downloaded PDF. If there is some type of security, send me a message using the "Contact Publisher" link.

I must be blind, can't find that "Contact Publisher" link. :(
I downloaded it again, tried different readers to be sure.
Security Method : Password Security
Encryption Method: 128-bit AES.

Guess DriveThru adds this when they "brand" the file with your name. I think there is nothing you can do, it's just DRM.

The "Contact Publisher" link is right below the "Publisher Average Rating" on the right side of the screen.

Will there be a colored and/or hardcover option for this book?
If so, any idea when?

Not for this version. After about a year or so of collecting feedback, this listing will be updated with a Revised 1st Edition which will then be re-laid out in the 7x10 format with full color and printer-friendly PDFs, a full color hardcover, and a black-and-white softcover. I'll offer a discount coupon for those who purchased the print edition and would like to upgrade to the revised print edition.

The color, casebound version proof has been ordered and shipped. It hasn't been received yet, but I expect it soon. However, the paperback, black-and-white version is now available.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
