In the center of the land known as Cleadonia is a large dark forest that has thrived since ancient time. It has held its secrets since the dawn of the world, refusing to become the domain of any kingdom. It is from these kingdoms that many adventurers travel from seeking their fortune, glory, and renown while overcoming the many dangers under the forest’s leafy canopy. Be it giants, dragons, or mortals, can you overcome the dangers of the Nimdor Forest and become one of the daring during this age of heroes?

Cleadonia is a role playing game were players take on the roles of adventurers who explore the hidden and dangerous corners of the world. The game takes place in a high fantasy world wherein lives many fantastic races, many of who are not your usual fantasy fair. In fact you will not find any playable Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Gnomes, Goblins, Halflings, or Orcs in this game. All the races in this game are anthropomorphic animals.

Cleadonia has the following:

  • Two six sided dice is all that is needed for all task resolution.
  • Magic: No need to track Mana Points or memorize spells daily. Instead the system offers a unique approach, every time a character casts a spell they make a save against fatigue.
  • No rolling for damage to slow down combat.
  • Perform combat manuevers based upon your character's choosen weapon and martial skills.
  • Armor: Armor in Cleadonia is more than just a stat, its reactive. As it protects you from damage, it absorbs damage and wears out. As it wears out it will need to either be replaced or repaired.
  • Classless based system. Instead of picking a class like in other rpgs, you build the character you want from skills and talents.
  • No Levels. Instead of gaining experience points and waiting to improve by going up in levels, you can spend the experience points as soon as you get them to improve your characters abilities.
  • Herbal Alchemy. Using your Botant and Alchemy skills to create an herbal remedy with near magical properties.

What's the basic combat system like?

Basic combat is Your roll vs the opposing roll. Highest roll wins. When you make a character, you pick Combat based skills like Sword, knife, bow, brawling, polearm, etc. In these your character character will have a rating, which can be increased as you gain experience. The rating of a combat skills gives you bonuses to strikes and parries, as well as, give you access to combat Maneuvers that you can use during combat for additional effect and bonuses. When you land an attack, the defender takes an amount of damage equal to the listed damage of the weapon plus the character's Strength bonuses. A defender applies damage tot heir character - subtracting damage from the total equal to their armor's damage reduction rating. When a crit is rolled and is successful, the attack bypasses the defenders armor.

I hope this answers your question.

Awesome - I love opposed attack/defense rolls and armor as damage reduction.
One final question.
I've seen some recent games using second-by-second combat instead of combat rounds. Which does this use?

In Cleadonia, every round of combat last about 5 seconds. Every character can perform one standard action and one simple action on their turn, which takes place within 3 seconds of time. Simple actions are things like Movement, perception checks, called shots. Standard actions are attacks, skills checks, magic, etc.
There are also Reactions you can take outside of your turn as well. Generally, it is not assumed that each time a character attacks with a sword that that attack is a single sword swing aimed at the opponent. That it is a series of faints and thrusts that represent their sword style and technique.

In the magic system, time plays a bigger part because some spell take more time to cast than others. Some are Instant, which take affect at the end of your turn and other take 5 seconds, which take affect right before the beginning of your next turn, etc.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
