Can we expect an "official" Old School Essentials revised versions of these BX Classes in the future?

It's on the list of projects I'd like to do at some point, but is not coming any time soon.

I have some notes on how such books might look, but they're not in the works. Kind of a "maybe one day" project.

I love this supplement. Curious the Sniper skill allows "sneak attack" with weapons that do a d6 of damage while backstab can only be done with a dagger. I know I can do whatever I like but does it seem reasonable to allow short swords to be used with backstab to make it even with the Sniper skill?

Glad you're enjoying it!

You're right. In retrospect (looking back 4 years), I feel that the sniper talent is generally overpowered and would probably eliminate it entirely, were I to revise this material.

Allowing backstab to work with other weapons would work too. (That's more in line with the D&D tradition, but I've always found it silly that thieves can backstab with swords.)

I completely agree actually. I'll just remove the sniper talent. Being able to add your level to the damage more than makes up for the low d4 of the dagger. Add in your strength modifier and the damage is still quite solid. What are your thoughts on rolling an extra d4 for damage vs just rolling a d4 and doubling it? I'm a backer of your Old School essentials line and I look forward to using this resource along with b/x warrior which I haven't checked out yet. Any other retrospective thoughts about this resource or b/x warrior that you think I should be conscious off when using them with Old School essentials? Thanks Gavin! Great work as usual. :) Cheers!

Honestly, it's a long time since I really looked at the B/X Rogue in enough depth to have design thoughts about it. (The sniper thing was something that I've had in mind for a long time.)

About rolling 1d4 x 2 vs 2d4: the former will be more swingy (2 damage or 8 damage are equally likely), the latter will turn up average results more often (5 damage will be the most common). I guess which you use is just a matter of group preference really.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
