The Daring Comics Role-Playing Game is a super-hero game designed around the foundations of Fate Core, giving you everything you need to create your own comic book adventures. More than just a core set of rules, it’s also a toolkit system allowing you to customize your series to get the feel you want at the table.

The Daring Comics Role-Playing Game features:

  • Full Fate system rules.
  • Series and setting creation rules. Choose the power level and tone of your series, and determine the experience level of the heroes. Each choice directly affects how powerful your heroes are at the beginning of the series. The players also help create some of the locations and characters to populate the campaign world, making campaign and setting creation a collaborative effort.
  • Create a cast of supporting characters and a personalized rogues gallery, just like those seen in comics, to gain more benefits for your hero.
  • Dozens of sample stunts and over 100 ready-made powers, along with rules on how to create your own.
  • Create your own character complications, such as powered-armor that can be shut down in a scene, or vulnerability to a particular substance, to gain additional fate points when they come into play.
  • Super Team rules, complete with team aspects and its own set of stunts that are available to all members.
  • An appendix of tips and examples on how to customize various rules to fit your series, such as: variants on several powers, and how to create a team of varied series and experience level heroes.

It’s time to create your world, build your hero, and fight for justice.

It’s time to be a super-hero!

Grabbed the softcover and my campaign is off the ground and running. :) We'd tried every kind of supers system for Fate Core (and older!) but nothing quite satisfied like this one.

I got the softcover (received just last night) and I like it a lot. Lee S, if you made a hardcover version available I would buy one of those as well. Your work is worth it!

Just bought the game a few days ago, and I've read it. I like a lot of it, and I'm very happy with the purchase.

Rather tangential question: I noticed that the website and forum that are mentioned on one of the first few pages is down. Is that a permanent state of affairs?

Damn. What a late reply. I really wish the site sent me notifications of a post here. Sorry about that.

The forums being gone is expected to be permanent, as they were rarely ever used outside of like 8 people and a bunch of Bots trying to register.

As for the website, that went down when I retired from RPGs summer 2017. With my upcoming super-hero prose novels releasing around September/October 2018, the website URL will come back up around then, and will serve as my Author Website moving forward.

The Daring Comics Role-Playing Game will be talked about on there when it goes live, since I am writing super-hero prose fiction nowadays, and there's no reason the two concepts can't tie together..

I spent a good part of tonight going through this game. It's given me quite a few impressions.

Was I glad I bought it? Yes. It's approach to using the Fate system was well done. And well considered.

I'm glad to own it.

I don't really follow Daring, so I didn't see that. That's why I asked here. Should be purchasing this in a few weeks

Hey, not a problem.

I only follow certain fiction authors, myself.

If you ever get a POD version up, I'm interested. A 250 pg PDF to run a game though, is just too dense for me, anyway.

I have the interior file without the page background that folks didn't like. I plan to upload it this week. Then the printer will take a couple days to verify it, then I can order a proof. Soon as they ship the proof, I can activate it.

I had to wait because there were a few KS orders for the POD still pending, and as soon as I change the interior file the POD becomes completely unavailable.

So, should be about a month or so.

The softcover is no longer available for retail purchase. Eventually we will release that version again without the page backgrounds, but I can't give a date on that yet.

Super regret having bought the printed version.

Please stop doing full-page grey-scale backgrounds on your books. Or if you do them, make them super, super light. I just got my copy of this in the mail and its incredibly difficult to read. I had the pdf because I'd backed the KS. I splurged on an at-cost printed copy because of the rules density. I knew I'd need a physical copy if I ever used it at the table. But the the background's massively distracting, diminishes legibility, and works against the reader rather than doing anything to enhance the book. I can only imagine their proof looked nothing like this. Please consider removing the backgrounds for the softcover version.

Steven . . . yeah, that was something we had to do real quick after we realized that "doh!" tablet PDF readers don't have the layer-click options. Been a while since I'd released a RPG book. The last one was World of the Dead for Savage Worlds in 2013. :)

Just wanted to say thank you a thousand times for including a "no background" version of the pdf. My printer thanks you too.

Nope. Dawn of Legends was totally unrelated. You won't find it because it hasn't been available in a long time. It was taken off the market once we left Studio-2 Publishing in 2010.

That was the cover art from it, which we had used as placement art in the Kickstarter and people contacted us hoping it would be the Daring Comics cover. So, since they wanted it, and the art had been collecting dust for six years, I went ahead and used it.

Daring Comics is something totally different, uses the foundations of Fate Core, and has nothing in the slightest to do with Dawn of Legends.

I'd thought about, a few times over the years, re-releasing DoL with a 2nd edition ruleset. And I might one day, though any attached setting for that Savage product would be vastly different.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
