The Scholar
One of the Unlikely Heroes

Length: 5 pages + licence

Some people have no interest in the practical.

There are those that devote themselves to esoteric knowledge, theory, history and art. If given the opportunity, they might be eternal students and teachers, ever learning new and unusual things. Their devotion matches that of the Monk or the Wizard, but has a far less useful application. Long nights, poor care for their material concerns, these things make them as physically weak as the Wizard, without the advantage of magic to buoy them up. Absent minded, and focused upon their own interests, they are often seen as eccentric. They can achieve wide renown for their sagacity, as courtiers or advisors.

They are the least physically and magically equipped of any Unlikely Hero to manage in a time of crisis. But they do have a power of their own, though it be abstract and less applicable than those of others. It is the power of knowledge.

The sagely and well read of the world are Scholars.

Fantasy literature abounds with tales of ordinary folk, lifted to the status of Hero by extraordinary events. The Unlikely Heroes are seven character classes with concepts drawn from the standard NPC classes in the DMG. They are for those exceptional people who choose not to adventure, but should fate intervene, their quality shines through.

A compilation of the severn character classes is now avaiable... Click here to take a look. Buy any one of the classes and receive a discount voucher for the Compilation, for the full price of your class of choice!

Great stuff. All of the classes in this series seem very playable, especially from a GM stand-point. Even if they don't all make it into my game, elements of them will.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b&g [...]

The Unlikely Heroes package offers some nice, balanced alternatives to the traditional D20 class system. My players loved the variation of choice.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Ver [...]

A great idea, I feel like one of d20s biggest weaknesses is the rabid early power progression, there is little time to watch your character grow, the jump from beginner to hero is a little too abrupt. The idea of starting as an every day guy/gal and ha [...]

This is, IMO, an excellent class! I have longed for something like this ever since I played something similar in the first version of a Swedish RPG called "Drakar & Demoner" way back in 1984. It's basically a cross between the rogue's hig [...]

Great product, great price. Suggestions: This class is great for an NPC class or someone looking for a role-playing chalange, but I believe that the Spectrum Shift team has made him too powerful. I suggest less class skills (open lock? move sile [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
