star.gifstar.gifstar.gifstar.gifstar_half.gif "While the art is a nice touch, the heart of the book is the varied ranged combatants. These assorted classes, while tending to stand back and provide death at afar, are brought clearly to the front within the material. So, grab a gun, or a spear, or just a tea kettle of steaming water and give it a whirl with these optional Ranged Combatants."

"The Leviathan Slayer is my favorite class in here. The class represents people who want to take down the biggest creatures with a well placed spear. They get lots of interesting abilities especially toward large size and bigger opponents. The spear has always been an under used item in the games and its good to see something devoted to it. "

Dragons, Barbarians, and Giants -- what do they have in common? Well, my first answer would be stay far far away! What's the best way to accomplish that? Become a Ranged Combatant, of course!

Written by James "Grim" Desborough (author of HETACLE) and David Gallant, this book details the following:

--The Demolitionist - Able to craft black powder, the Demolitionist uses this new material to craft large explosives and small "grenades" to use against his enemies.
--The Improviser - Jackie Chan isn't the only one who can use a mundane item to his advantage.
--The Leviathan Slayer - With the ability to Monster Smite, the Leviathan Slayer is formidable against all his foes, and even moreso against monstrous ones.
--The Pistolier - Ever wanted to take a gun into a sword fight?
--The Wandslinger - Swords and magic are good, but duel-wands are better.
--The Divine Archer (prestige class) - Arcane Archers are for sissies.

More than just another batch of random bow prestige classes, Unorthodox Ranged Combatants, by Le Games, hits the bulls-eye with five imaginative core classes and two equally creative prestige classes. For the DM If you are like me, you are he [...]

I picked up URC for two classes: the Improviser, and the Wandslinger. The Wandslinger was alright, but a bit of a disappointment. They weren't as interesting as I had hoped, and I was put off that they were set up as an organization. The amount of wor [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
