Colours of Magic: Grey

A Spectrum Shift: Chromatic Arcana Product

Length: 18 pages + licence

In some worlds, Magic may not be seen as a force in and of itself. In some philosophies, magic can not be classed by types of effect, like Evocation, Illusion or Abjuration. Instead, it might be seen as a result of fundamental aspects of arcane metaphysics.

One such theory holds that all magic is a result of the principles of Colour.

Grey is the colour of the Shades, Illusions and Sound. Arcanists studying this style of magic can fool even the most astute of observers, making things appear, sound and even feel different to they actually are. The ultimate expression is destructive resonance so powerful it can kill with a sound, deceive even an Oracle, summon the powers of other colours from the realm of Shadows.

The most gifted of Grey specialists are Chymurges: Mages of the darker hues. Their skills are sometimes called cartomancy, but encapsulate far more than simple card tricks. They can manifest almost any style of magic, and then if needed, can fabricate and even enhance shadowy half-real versions of the other colours.

Included in this product:
- 3 new Clerical or Mystical domains
- a linked reclassification of one twelfth of the spells of the players handbook, with some new spell effects to fit the spells into Chromatic Magic Theory
- a whole new character class, the Chymurge. This spellcaster is gifted with cartomancy, and a great command over Grey magic.

The colours of Magic are being updated to 5e if you are interested - Please take look at Brown

Spectrum Shift: d20 fantasy from a slightly twisted perspective.

The colour of grey is more the magic of illusions than the school of Illusion; just as the colour of purple was more the magic of necromancy than the school of Necromancy. The magic of figments, illusions, darkness, and shadows all come under this colo [...]

Illusionist characters have always been a fun character concept, but I have always been disappointed in their application as a specialist wizard. True, being a specialist was better treatment than they had in 1st Edition, but even in the 2nd and 3rd [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
