Just a heads-up - there's one piece of errata that was in FFG's errata doc that hasn't been updated in the current PDF: On page 78, the Grenadier talent should list 'Ranked: No". (It's a super minor thing, but in the sake of completeness...)

Great to see others running the game here in Adelaide. This is our system of choice now. I was running a campaign for around 3 years with a group (12 all up) students in high school each and every lunch time, and in 2022 I switched to Genesys. The game became so much more free, and the students were encouraged to be far more hands on due to the narrative dice system. Also, magic became far more organic. The students simply described what they wanted to happen (within limits of course) and a dice pool was instantly created. The students no longer had to read (they never did) what their spells did and how the mechanics played out, they simply described in. The creativity from the students was brilliant. We just finished a three year campaign, and they had the time of their lives. We are now about to play in the Wild West, and yes Genesys is all we need.

I do play with adults once a week and Genesys has replaced D&D 5E and even Star Wars. We typically create our own universe and build it as we go...See more

Any rpg that uses specialized dice for their game, already has one strike against them. Then add in that it is supposed to be a universal system that for some strange reason uses specialized dice. Strike two. AAAAND the dice are unavailable? XXX?
There are already great universal systems out there. Hero System is fantastic. As is R Talsorian's Interloc and the hybrid Fuzion.
It is a pretty book though. Though so is The Witcher by R Talsorian, and that is a damn fine system and universal dice. d6 d10.

I decided to jump in and bought this, the Expanded Player's Guide, GM Screen, and Realms of Terrinoth at the game store.
Any chance of discounted PDF versions?

Remember...buy the pdf for $20 then the cost for one set of special dice ($12). Reviews say to buy (at least) two sets. For an amazing total cost for $44 plus tax. ALSO THE DICE ARE NOT AVAILABLE~~

FFG has a free Genesys dice roller app for phones if you don't want to use the physical dice/can't find any.

Excellent game engine and I think for sci-fi/modern setting perfect. The magic is system is utterly broken, however. Buyer beware. Starting characters start out with all the 'spells'. The issue here is that these are in fact not spells at all - they are *skills* (attack, barrier, augment, curse, conjure etc) and you can do a staggering range of magical effects with them. That is, a single magic skill gives you access to up to seven distinct sub skills each of these with a stack of possible effects added. Because magic can do almost anything players naturally are incentivised to max out the magic skill since it's a Swiss army knife. Mages inevitably dominate the session with the sheer variety of things they can pull off straight out the gate. Other characters shrink into the background. Magic becomes utterly banal. The strain cost is supposed to balance it but it doesn't really work out that way in practice. Why differentiate between brawl, ranged, melee light and melee heavy mechanically by making them separate...See more

I'm really liking the look of this system as opposed to Fate Core. The narrative dice thing is amazing. I've been enjoying it in WHFRP and Star Wars. Can't wait to get my hands on the new L5R, because Rokugan is one of the few pre-made settings I can be bothered to run out of the box. But the narrative dice are what sold me. So much great thought went into Fate Core, and Rob Donaghue is perhaps the best brain in the game design universe right now, but the dice system in Fate Core leaves something to be desired. It's simple, but it's not awesome.

Does Fantasy Flight Games permit third-party companies to create supplements or adventures for the Genesys system that can be monetized? If so, does FFG expect a portion of the proceeds (and how would that work?)?

Genesys is my new go-to system. What's missing is support from Fantasy Flight Games. I am running a campaign in Realms of Terrinoth. I am waiting for Android: Shadow of the Beanstalk (no word on a release date that I can find). Otherwise there is no buz of anything else for this great system. The community on the FFG site for the game is VERY active. Any news out there...?

Truly an innovation in an "Any Setting" rules system.

This is great, but why has the product ended up in the display row for "Hottest Small Press"? Fantasy Flight Games is a major company. Please check that out.

Would this game be good for running a Star Wars themed game. (I prefer pdfs, fyi, and don't like pirated content, so SW is a pain for me.)

Yes. Genesys is basically the Toolkit System version of their trilogy of Star Wars RPGs.

Yes, except for its lack of a Force die. The Genesys dice do not include one nor anything like it, nor does the Genesys die-rolling app. You would have to use a separate die or work something out with a standard rpg die.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
