In recent years I've created paper deckplan posters for several of the ships from my Future Armada and Armada Codex product lines. Available here are electronic versions of those posters for use in gaming via computer or with a table-top projector. These are 24x26 inch jpeg images at 150 dpi. Two images are included: the "front" and "back" of the poster. The maps are at 1 inch = 5 feet scale with a grid built into the floor.

Exeter is a rugged, Durance-class cargo ship that supports a crew of 4 to 8. She comes with a shuttle as well as a wheeled buggy; is lightly armed for when things get rough, and carries a complement of escape pods as a last resort. With a spacious cargo bay and a 10-cabin passenger deck, this ship has something for everyone and room to grow. Due to her size, the complete deckplans for Exeter take up both sides (that is, both images) of the poster.

The Exeter-B issue of Armada Codex is also for sale here at RPGNow. That product details the interior areas of the ship and includes the deckplans (on a plain white background) broken into pages for printing. It also includes the ORCA troop transport variant as well as alternate deck layouts for more cargo or passengers.

Physical posters, miniatures, demo documents and sample art are available at 0-hr.com .

What exactly is the difference between a normal ship product and these poster products? Is it slightly a cheaper alternative with two prebuilt versions of the original ship without any supporting documentation or other extra art assets? Would I get these posters still if I purchased the original ship product?

The digital poster images are not included in the Future Armada or Codex issues. Most Armada & Codex issues do, however, include large images of the complete maps. They are unlabeled, on a plain background, and in various sizes. The newer Codex maps include layered PDF versions as well.

The digital posters images are all pairs of flat 24x36 inch jpeg images. They contain complete deckplans with areas labeled, and also include background art and renderings.

I do not think you would need both products. The Armada and Codex issues should have everything you need but, as you said, the poster images are a cheaper alternative if you just want a digital map.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
