Roleplay in a world of the aberrant and bizarre!

Empire of Ash is set in a decaying society faced with the unknown. Factories powered by lobotomized magic users feed the Autocracy, a sprawling totalitarian state. Players take the role of expendable "Vanguards". These brave men and women are used as a stopgap effort to stem the tide of everything that is not real.

Mechanics focus on depth rather than breadth. It's easy to pick up and explain but rewards clever players. Attributes are presented simply but allow for customization and modification in game.

GMs will have an easy time improvising any unplanned scene without having to bend the rules.

Massive update: Quest, more character creation options, lore, more equipment, and more.

Needs a lot of work. Characters get a +1/0 and a 1 to assign among 10 stats, but the example character receives 3 1s? Not entirely sure what role the players are. Are they Contractors working for the Autocracy against the Cursed? But the Cursed are the "backbone" of the Autocracy? Three pages in and I'm completely confused.

Hi Michael, thanks for checking us out. I'm missing a little bit of context if you don't mind. The intro mentions using Lobotomy to control the Cursed but it has begun to spontaneously revert. Should I add some extra text to further clarify that? It's in the two paragraph 'Cursed" section in the introduction.

For the stats, it is shown that the 1/1 is 1 in Active and 1 in Passive as the notation, plus an additional in Fitness from the defined racial Passive. If it's currently unclear, how can I change this to make it more understandable?

The Cursed are the "backbone" of the Autocracy, as far they are used as resources to add in the expansion of the Autocracy and weapons to secure their borders. Lobotomy has been used since the Deluge to render them docile, but something is causing the lobotomies to fail- resulting in calamities that warrant investigation by the Inquisition (occasionally by way of contractors).
Hope that clears that up!

PUBLISHER
Hi there, wanted to let you know that we're changing up the character creation segment to better explain everything without having to read to page 11. Hope this will help.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
