Why in the name of all that's holy do I have to go download a PDF from some website somewhere to get a preview of this game?

They have a character sheet linked on their website.

https://mega.nz/#!GDgzkCZB!uT-c1wM3OHrw0XuXfhx8ys9sDmqbX3u4iNF3orTjPmk

It looks like a D20 homebrew: hit points, armor class, fortitude/reflex/will, str/dex/con/int/wis/cha, levels and experience points.

You will find the system plays like a traditional D20 System, yet also find that our system allows for more control and freedom of the rules.

Have you ever played a game and wanted to create a hero yet found out you could not? Some small rule, or rules stacked on rules that made it impossible?

Jose, you truly can run any game with this. Its simple, quick and why would it be otherwise, it would be bad for buissness if it turned out you could not run any campaign you wanted.

If you feel this is not the game for you thats fine, thats why there is 100+ systems out there you can pick from. Yet If you gave ours a try we hope you enjoy it.

I should point out that you have at least three missing commas in the above statement, along with two errors of usage, some erroneous capitalization, and a comma splice. I'm not all that sure there are no mistakes in the book.

Dear Hero,
Flaws are something that a hero has to overcome to better themself. Hero builder is written by a team of dyslexics, 3 of them to be exact. Yes spelling is an ishue we have to over come, however we put time into creating hero builder and contacted not one but 3 editors to comb through hero builder and catch any mistakes we have made. Thomas has yet to contact our editors to look through other locations to fix them. Because of that I'm sure you can understand that he will miss some from time to time. This doesn't excuse his mistakes. I just wish to clear the air in your concern. It is as close to being gramaticly unblenished as any other book.

$30 for an 82 page book... there better be magic in that book. Too rich for me I think. You'll get more than double the sales if you half the price.

Yes $30 might be high; yet for 82 pages of streamlined quality content that lets you play anything you want (Litrally Anything you want), $30 is not a bad price.

Thomas, you need to ease up on the hyperbole. When you claim to have "truly the first Universal Role-Playing Game for everyone", and make statements like "it can be easy to get bogged down by the sheer unlimited power that is Hero Builder", you set yourself up for criticism.

In the 10 double-spaced 1" border pages of "streamlined quality content" in your preview, I learned that your system uses polyhedral dice and supports three power-levels. That's it. What are the rules like? What does a completed character look like? How many other pages of the remaining 72 are blank or have filler content?

$30 for a no-art rulebook is a wildly unreasonable price. There are 100+ universal systems on this site that are free or selling for < $10. The GURPS core rulebook is $29.99 and 336 pages with full color art. The HERO System 6th edition rules are 446 pages for $20 with full color art. Etc. You are competing with these and other universal products, many of which...See more

If you wish to have a dolled up art book with rules stacked on rules then yes our competitor's are the ones you want.

If you want a Universal Ruleset that is nothing but streamlined rules that allow for anything then you want our set.

Jose has a valid point: Your rules are far from the first flexible, universal ruleset. There are many others, some simple rules put together by obscure indies, others long-standing systems from some of the biggest companies in the business: GURPS, Hero System, Black Hack, BRP, Savage Worlds, and many, many others. There is no dearth of universal rulesets. Quite the opposite, actually: there's an overwhelming number of them, each claiming to be the best. In order to stand out from the crowd, you need to *show* your prospective customers why your game is better than the one they're already playing -- not just tell them it is, but show them why it is. That's what people haven't been seeing.

Explain to me what I can do with your rules, which I'd have to pay $30 for, that I can't do with, for example, GURPS. Not in vague generalities, but "This specific thing isn't possible under the GURPS rules, but it is with Hero Builder; it works like this: (explanation)"

The RPG industry is...See more

Any chance on getting a preview? $30 is a lot to drop on an 82 page pdf without some idea of what I'm getting into.

So far, from what I see in the preview, it appears to be tailored towards players. Are you planning on releasing a Hero Master book?

The Hero Master information is in the other half of the book.

We have a whole section on making enemies and obstacles so that whatever campaign you do it feels alive and plays well.

Thomas, the description says "Choose from three types of campaigns..." Does that mean fantasy, modern and space campaigns? Or fantasy campaigns that feature no magic, low magic or high fantasy?

The answer is, Commoner: Thriller, Horror, Romance or Survival Based Campaigns; Heroic: Action, Adventure Based Campaigns; and Godly: Wacky, Super Hero, Over Powered or Comical Based Campaigns.

Basically Low leveled, Average leveled and High level games. (You can have a horror game in a Godly Campaign, its just how powerful your hero is in that setting. You can have magic, no magic or the magic is just advanced tech and Ext. It’s what you want the flavor to be. Flavor being realistic, fantasy, modern... whatever you want basically)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
