The Pine Barrens

Watermarked PDF

An Adventure for 4-7 PCs between levels 7-8

Is the party willing to gain access to the slasher-infested TURZEE ISLAND to
hunt down the escaped criminally deranged croothe brothers?

There is legend of a buried treasure chest filled with wondrous riches
for all to enjoy. But can the party solve the 4-part riddle and avoid certain death?

It appears that a rather large REWARD is being offered for the capture or proven killing of three deranged escaped criminals that have sought refuge and safety onto Turzee Island. The paper also describes a wide variety of other unexplained deaths and abandoned dwellings from the island. It appears that there is something that is being referred to as a small army of “SLASHERS” who are taking credit for the island’s overtaking.

Can the party delve deep into the Pine Barrens and other dangerous areas of The Island of Turzee and find out the cause of this evil, kill or capture the ruthless and vile CROOTHE brothers, find a buried treasure trove and escape alive?

WHO IS IT FOR? - GM’s running the Pathfinder system looking for a great darker-themed adventure to throw at unsuspecting PCs. It has easy moments, moderate and very challenging moments. There are 30+ FULL-PAGE PLAYER HANDOUTS specifically designed and created just for this adventure. 7 FULL PAGE MAPS for the GM.

It is also for an ongoing campaign. This is PART 4 of 7 in an adventure series that (potentially) takes the PCs from levels 1-14.

NOTES - While not pitch black in nature, this and all adventures involves certain adult material. No nudity or profanity, but dark human nature situations and plenty of violence. So please review this BEFORE your children download it. It is still, by my standards, for teenagers and up, but I just need to be sure that YOU be sure.

Also, this adventure is NOT set up for D&D, But I have seen people adapt products like these anyways, so IF you like, please indulge.

Finally, if you have any problems whatsoever - please feel free to email me!

I would like to take some time and reflect on changes I would make to this module.

The "witch's house." This seems kind of small for an asylum. But running with that, it needs a road going to it and maybe a support building like a shed. The lower level seems interesting. My only concern is area 9. There is one door to enter this room. After the inhabitant is woke up, she runs to the (now closed and locked from the outside) door and bangs on it to summon the golems patroling outside. (note, the seperating wall between area 9 and 10 uses door icons, but don't seem to be doors given either room description.)

Marlabeth: CR 15 against a party of level 7s? I'm not sure if that is good or not. I am not sure at this point if I would use the "possessed" rules i came up with for her or simply run with the other option for the murdering children below.

Marsh Giants ( area F): I'm not really sure why the heroes would go here. (Aside from general exploration.) I would...See more

If this is for Pathfinder, it should not be listed as "any system/system agnostic." It says it's for "levels 7-8" which doesn't sound like it would easily fit any of the very large number of game systems that don't use levels.

From the preview, it seems like those familiar with New Turzee, er, Jersey will not be disappointed.

Very sharp of you! LOL You are the first to “officially” notice that the main Wilderness map is indeed in the shape of New Jersey. Very good call, man. Thanks! : ) Have a great week if going to Gen Con or staying home like my sad self. ; )

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
