Go to the Contents of your PDF/Book and near the end you will see a chapter of the book called Quest, that is a pre-made One-Shot Adventure made by the authors.

Hello, I have a question about Danger rolls when you determine the Outcome of a Decade in your character's life (Witcher) . As I understand, I am free to choose the Risk I took for that specific Decade, but I got lost on how to actually determine if there was any danger or not. I can see the percentages listed below each Risk level, but I don't understand what they mean in terms of rolling. (Pages 242, 245)

You roll percentile dice (2d10, with 1 die as the ones and 1 as the tens. So, if you roll a 5 and a 4, you've rolled 54). If the die is equal to or under the number in the Danger row for Safety you picked, you encountered Danger and need to roll on the Danger charts on page 245.

Example: Demetrius has decided his Witcher, Prym, spent much of his third decade as a Witcher engaged in study and not out in the field. He picks the Cautious Safety level and rolls percentile dice (2d10): 2 and 7 which is 27. That's above 10% so no Danger. Demetrius goes on to roll for Outcome (he rolls a 1 on a 1d10 and picks up a Benefit). Having spent a long time studying, Demetrius thinks the next decade of Prym's life was particularly hazardous and he goes with Risky. He rolls a 33, which is lower than 75% so there's Danger! Worried for his Witcher, Demetrius turns to the Danger section to see just what happened...

use different colored dice and set which is for the 1's and which is for the 10's, if you have only the same color then don't roll simultaniously... duh

You should always designate one die to be the 1s and one die to be the 10s before you roll.

I'm wondering why there's a lack of hyperlinking and no outline included within this pdf, especially as so much of the content requires the reader to go off in search of clarification on systems. I'm not sure if it's my pdf viewer or not, as some content is highlighted and obviously meant to be a quick reference to a system or rule contained further within.

I'm enjoying the system thus far and can't wait to play test it, but the PDF itself leaves a lot to be desired for how much it costs. Hopefully that's something looked at in the future.

Hello
Seen this question but haven’t seen a proper answer for Quen. I cast quen with 4 vitality, are all 4 attacks blocked by regardless of turn (excluding the case when I get exhausted). This ability seems to be game breaking, can you add something like The shield can “ONLY” block multiple attacks in same turn.

They do, but those characters aren't made with the character generation rules, since they're "Legendary" characters. In a recent Sage Advice, they even admitted that Geralt is beyond what a player Witcher can ever expect to be. So yes, they had the characters like Geralt and Triss, but don't use them as examples.

Does bow more powerful than crossbow in Witcher TRPG? Bow and crossbow can do the same damage, but bow can make "strong strike" to double damage and crossbow only have +1 to accuracy. Is it fair?
Customer avatar
August 24, 2018 1:21 pm UTC

These stats were built with a fair amount of "what are they like in the real world" in mind.

Crossbows have certain advantages over bows. They're easier to learn how to use, require less upper body strength to prime for loosing, have a mechanical release instead of a manual one, and can be fully drawn for any length of time without straining the muscles of the wielder, making aiming easier. In short, they're more inherently accurate, hence the bonus. And the regular crossbow vs the regular longbow does a bit more damage because of this as well.

Bows required more skill and were faster to load. They also didn't have a fixed draw length (allowing for quicker, less powerful attacks or slower, more powerful attacks). They also weren't quite as good at penetrating armor (due to the way arrows, which are less stiff than crossbow bolts) wobble during flight. Which is why the heaviest of the crossbows in the game has the Armor Piercing quality.

Although I like your reasoning, some of it doesn't follow through.

"They're easier to learn how to use, require less upper body strength to prime for loosing, have a mechanical release instead of a manual one, and can be fully drawn for any length of time without straining the muscles of the wielder"

None of this is mechanical detail. In the RPG, crossbows and bows take the same amount of points to learn and advance. It takes no strength to use a crossbow or bow and there are no benefits or penalties relating to Strength aside from the crossbow's higher weight.

Combine that with how the best bow, the Elven Zefhar, is outright better than the Monster Hunter Crossbow (it's even lighter and less expensive while being equally rare!), especially since the Dwarven Crossbow is a fairly underwhelming weapon for something coming from the Elderfolk, and bows just outclass crossbows.

A few questions.
Does this use the same core mechanics as Cyberpunk2020?

If so, will there ever be a version made for generic fantasy? Or does this convert easily for use in other settings?

It's the same core mechanics in a lot of places.

It'll pretty easily convert to more generic fantasy provided you're okay with the hyper lethal combat tone and general tech level.

And another Question that I forgot to mention:
13) Page 114 for Quen sign: It says "Quen creates a shield that blocks one attack that you fail to dodge or block for every point of Stamina spent. This shield can block multiple attacks in the same round.". So let's say I spent 4 points of STA. Does it block 4 attacks, whatever the roll is? Even if for example an ancient Vampire attacks and he rolls 40? Or does the roll on the sign becomes the new Difficulty for someone to hit me?
Customer avatar
Bence F August 24, 2018 12:29 pm UTC
In the games, even if an ancient Vampire strikes, Quen blocks that strike no matter what. Though, it could not be multiplied. So after each Quen blocking, it needed to be recasted.

Hello,

First of all, I want to congrats you about the work you have done in this book and how you "picture" out both novels and pc games. But as all "first" times, there are some confusing points. So below I point out some of those (after reading sage's columns).

I have some rule questions about Sage's column:

1) Page 22 for Witchers: With "Dulled Emotions" you can't raise EMP above 6, because of the -4 penalty. But let's say, can a player chooses to put a "3" on EMP, so it goes to "1", or he must put a "5" at least? If he is allowed to put "3", If he ever chooses to raise it, it will become a "2" with 20 IP or he needs to spend enough IP to raise it EMP to "6" to get the desired "2" total?
2) Page 23 for Elves: At Perks, Marksman says it gives a +2 on Archery, but on the example at the column on the right of the page it says +1. What is correct?
3) Page 49 and...See more

I have made new post with further Questions, but I will put them here also:

13) Page 114 for Quen sign: It says "Quen creates a shield that blocks one attack that you fail to dodge or block for every point of Stamina spent. This shield can block multiple attacks in the same round.". So let's say I spent 4 points of STA. Does it block 4 attacks, whatever the roll is? Even if for example an ancient Vampire attacks and he rolls 40? Or does the roll on the sign becomes the new Difficulty for someone to hit me?

14) Page 42 and 268 for Monsters and Magical Training: In the games, all monsters (except Humanoid and Wolves) are magical. Is that the case on RPG also? And if it is, let's see the "Magical Training" of a Mage. It says "Magical Training can also be rolled as a form of Awareness that detects magical beings, spells, and hexes.". So it detects all monsters? And if yes, does that anything have to do with the Witcher Knowledge, just because it is a magical...See more

Further Questions arise:

16) page 47 for Luck: Does Luck add to the roll or the base skill? Or is it just a "Bonus"?
17) page 156 for fumbles: Let's say for some reason I have +25 on attack. I make an attack roll and I get an "1" (damn luck). I roll again to subtract and I roll 1, so my roll is 24 but it's a "simple fumble with no effect". Does that mean that my opponent won't roll at all defense, even though he need at least one "10", because his Dodge is +5, even when I fumbled?
18) page 156 for fumbles: In the contrary, someone attacks me with a total of 14 on attack. I try to dodge with my incredible +19, but I roll "1". Even if the answer in my 12 question is to roll again and subtract the new roll, if I roll a "1" on the new roll, my total roll will be 18! Enough to avoid the attack nonetheless. Is it a fumble and I get hit by my opponent? And what is my defense for this attack?
19) page 156 for fumbles: Is there ANY...See more

Hello! Some of your questions have already been asked by previous gamers and are already on our list for The Sage's Answer column. Some are new and have been added. I can answer a few here.

Regarding your question 12. You can critical and fumble on defense rolls (d10s are rolled again and the new value is added if the original roll was a 10, subtracted if it was a 1 to a minimum of Base + Initial Roll - Fumble Die/Dice of 0). When you fumble a defense roll you should also check the Fumble Table on page 157, which has different results depending upon the negative subtracted from your result and the attribute used to Defend (Reflex or Dexterity).

Regarding your question 17 and 18. If, even with a Fumble, your attack or defense is high enough with (Base + Initial Roll - Fumble Die/Dice) to beat your opponent's attack or defense, you have successfully attacked or defended.

If you attacked, you do damage with the attack. If you defended, you avoid damage from the attack. ...See more

Hello,

Thank you very much for your immediate answer and I'm looking forward for the rest of the answers.

But to get it straight (I'm still unsure), let me ask for 3 examples:
1) Let's say that I attack someone and I roll a total of 15. The defender rolls a fumble (with DEX defense) with an 8 on the second roll (after the first "1") but for some impressive reason his total is 16! Then he dodge the attack, but he still "trip and fall prone, dropping his weapon 1d6 meters away" as per the fumble table?
2) I attack someone and fumble on melee (Reflex melee) with a "6" on the fumble roll and a total roll of 12 and then the defender also rolls and fumbles (Reflex Defending) with a "15" minus (10 on first fumble and 5 on second) and a total of 2 (!) on defense. So in this example, my weapon glances off and I'm staggered, the defender's weapon ricochets back and hit him, but still, just because our difference is 10, I do a Complex Critical...See more

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
