Run an old school game for Halloween with this spooky sandbox setting. Contains five fully mapped and keyed adventure zones, three custom character races, and a mob of macabre monsters. Written for Labyrinth Lord but easily converted to other old school systems.

Not that I finally have it in hand, a couple questions:

Are the new races meant to be used during initial character creation or as replacements for the slain?

Is Eye-gorb based on an existing story?

And overall, this is a great mini sandbox. I plan on expanding it a bit here and there with elements taken from Mutant Bastards (esp plant mutations), Realms of Crawling Chaos (the races, tomes and artifacts), and my own Quantum Flux (uberweird artifacts); but it is a solid foundation that can be used multiple times with just a little change or reskin here and there. Excellent job, BJ!

The new races are for any stage in the game you wish. Either starting characters or replacements. Dampyrs, grimlings, and humanculi are all easily to be found around Strangeldorf and very likely to get run out of it at the head of a mob as well...

Eye-gorb is essentially just a Lovecraftian admixture of gelatinous cube and beholder. It's also inspired somewhat by the invisible monster from that one episode of Jonny Quest after it's made visible. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX6cuL5f_nc)

Thanks for the kudos, and for purchasing my little tombstone tome. I'm exceedingly glad you'll find it useful in your games. I heartily approve of all the additional materials you're Frankenstiening onto the basic frame that I've provided. What is old school play but making our own monster out of custom components?

Pleasant screams! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRamB30E9mU

You may want to contact OBS and ask them why this isn't showing up on the front page under "Newest Print".

I think that's a thing you need to spend Promotion Points on.

Hi,

Would you please be so kind as to include a synopsis of each adventure (title and a sentence or two) and a list of the new races and monsters in the description?

Thanks!

Sure. If you're the type who wants to read the ingredient list on the back of the bag of Halloween candy I'm happy to oblige. :)

Ghoulardia Pass is a mini-sandbox, containing a mad scientist's laboratory, a vampire's castle, a cemetery just full of crypts and graves to desecrate, a sunken, cyclopean temple beneath the dark surface of a lake, and something kinda hairy going on around the hunting lodge. All the classic monster movie scenarios and then some.

As for races, you get the dampyr (essentially half-vampires), grimlings (grubby little Igor types), and humanculus (lab grown Frankenguys).

For monsters, you got bonemonkeys, grindeylows, mad scientists, rat kings, tentacultists, werebats, and the horrible Spider Wolf. Plus enough undead, lycanthropes, and other gruesome goons to fill out your roster for an evening's danse macabre.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
