The Magical Land of Yeld

Somewhere there is a door.

A door to a magical land. A land of secrets and treasure. Of exploration and adventure. Where children can become heroes and stand against monsters and magic.  And once you enter, the only thing you have to fear is that you can never go home again!

The Magical Land of Yeld is an all ages tabletop role playing game based on the fantasy world of the popular comic Modest Medusa.

Kids become heroes in the magical land of Yeld!

- Build and customize a child hero, with 9 Friend Types, 8 Heroic Jobs, 6 Advanced Jobs and 6 Monster Jobs! Plus hundreds of items, spells and "special dice" to collect and master!

- Explore the magical land of Yeld with unique map, calendar and travel rules! As your children travel and explore they'll grow older and stronger, but they'll have to find a way to escape Yeld before their 13th birthdays, or they'll become monsters and be trapped in the magical land forever!

- Fights come to life with team based tactics inspired by classic JRPGs and adventure games like Secret of Mana, The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy Tactics!

- Use the Monster Formula to create custom monsters, or choose from over 100 ready to play Monsters!

I had never heard of Yeld or Modest Medusa until the 'deal of the day' sale last week. Since then I've become a fan.

Enough that I know I'll want a printed copy if it becomes available.

If I purchased the PDF now could that be applied to the price of the POD or should I just wait?

Hi Michael. Thanks for checking out both Yeld and Modest Medusa! We will be offering the book in print later this year. We have the book on hand now and are in the middle of shipping them to Kickstarter backers, so after that they'll be available for sale from the Modest Medusa store and IPR.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your sample comic happens to have a typo on it. Bottom left panel, fifth to last word, fifth letter. Happens to everyone. Just figured you might want to know.

Thanks so much Kyle! Fixed now. Its amazing how easy it is to miss stuff like that after you've been staring at the game text for months and months!

There's a typo in the product description too: "Where children can become heros..." should be spelled "heroes". (Hopefully it's spelled correctly in the game itself.) And in the comic, "effect" should be "affect".

On a different note, I expect a preview to give some idea of how the game plays -- what dice mechanic is used, what races and classes are available, etc.. This one is pretty useless in that regard. A copy of the character sheet is nice, but five nearly-identical copies in a 15-page preview is a waste of space. And the last four pages are just grids!

Thanks for the correction. I'm not sure why the PDF preview is showing the last 20 pages of the game instead of the first 20. It wasn't doing that before, and it currently isn't set to do that. I've disabled the PDF preview until I can figure out what the problem is.

With the help of the staff the PDF preview is now displaying the correct pages.

Will there eventually be a PoD option available? I know backers have yet to receive their books, and I think it would be fair for them to get their copies first. However, I completely missed out on the KS campaign and I would eventually like to own a printed copy after seeing the pics on the KS page.

Also, are there any reviews available? I cannot seem to find one.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
