Map making can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating for GMs, especially GMs with limited time to begin with. In our new 'GM's Maps' range, we will be providing a range of pre-made maps for you to use in your games. Rising from the crashing waves is a stout and imposing structure which stands guard over the approach to the coast and harbour, built so that its batteries could project force out into the sea and fend off hostile ships the old sea fort has seen better days, but it remains a reminder of a nations determination to protect itself.

The Sea Fort presented here is suitable for historical, modern, near future or fantasy settings.  Whether it is still a functioning fort, has been abandoned, converted to a hotel or is now the home of some supervillain or mad scientist bent on world domination the Sea Fort offers endless possibilities for adventure.

In addition to the maps, key and a short introduction to Sea Forts, their history and purpose, this product also includes a dozen adventure ideas for various genres or settings.

Example Adventure Hooks:

10/. Here Be Monsters (Dark Fantasy/Horror/Pulp/Sci-Fi)

Several of the fort's garrison have gone missing lately, presumed to have fallen into the sea and been washed away. When a half-dead man is pulled from the sea everyone is surprised to find he isn't one of the missing me, in fact, no one knows who he is. Fading in and out of consciousness and half-mad he raves incoherently about sea monsters or sirens (or both). Is he really just mad or might his ramblings be the answer to what really befell the missing members of the garrison?

(M R McGowan)

12/. What Lies Beneath? (Fantasy or Horror)

They built the fort on a basalt pillar out in the middle of the ocean - not to defend The Empire from its enemy's navy, but to protect the world against what lived in the basalt tower...now years have passed and the only one who remembers their duty is the ageing padre - but the young officer just heard the scritch-scratch of claws on stone beneath the lowest levels.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
