Use Protective Magic in Character Development, Adventure Design, and Worldbuilding Abjuration comes from the Latin word abjurare, which translates as “to forswear”. As a category of magic, its purpose is protection and defense. The definition of abjuration magic has expanded over time to include spells that act as armor, prevent magical intrusion, and banish demons. Abjuration allows casters to dispel dangerous forces, and to resist a range of magical attacks. It even extends into disciplines like avoiding detection and reversing the effects of spells cast by others. For characters whose lives revolve around safeguarding important people, enchanted items, and arcane secrets, abjuration spells are useful tools. Magical attacks can be resisted or negate...

Worldbuilding Power: Alteration
Regular price: $2.00
Bundle price:
 $0.79
Format:
 Watermarked PDF
Use transmutation magic in character development, worldbuilding, and adventures! The magnum opus, or Great Work, of alchemy is the transmutation of base metals like lead into precious metals like gold. This is arguably the foundation of alteration and transmutation magic in fantasy roleplaying. The ability to turn one thing into another, even temporarily, can be both useful and frightening. Alteration also covers manipulating things, changing their shape without making deeper modifications to their basic properties. Objects can be made larger or smaller, stronger or weaker, as the caster desires. Antagonists will seek to leverage the same abilities, albeit for darker and more self-serving reasons. They won’t use alteration as ethically as a protagonist might, if they con...

Worldbuilding Power: Conjuration
Regular price: $2.00
Bundle price:
 $0.79
Format:
 PDF
Use the ability to call forth and command forces in character development, worldbuilding, and adventures! The word conjure stems from the Latin coniurare, to swear together or conspire. It means to command an oath, as in a pledge of duty or loyalty. Around the 14th century it took on the magical connotation of constraining a demon or spirit, forcing it to do that caster’s bidding. In the context of tabletop roleplaying, it refers to the general ability to call upon various forces. Characters who dabble in conjuration are dealing in borrowed power. The creatures and objects they bring forth tend to vanish once the work is done. There is no loyalty, no sense of permanence. They essentially borrow what items they need, enslave what creatures they can, to do their bidding. T...

Worldbuilding Power: Divination
Regular price: $2.00
Bundle price:
 $0.79
Format:
 PDF
Use Magical Insight in Character Development, Adventure Design, and Worldbuilding Divination comes from the Latin word divinare, which translates as “to be inspired by God”. As a category of magic, its purpose is to help the caster gain insight, if not direct answers, to a wide variety of situations. The definition of divination magic has expanded over time to include any spells that aid the caster in understanding things. This covers the ability to comprehend both spoken and written languages, and communicate effectively with animals and plants. Divination allows casters to sense the presence of specific forces or objects, and to know another person’s ethical stances. It even extends into disciplines like telepathy, granting some casters the power to rea...

Worldbuilding Power: Enchantment
Regular price: $2.00
Bundle price:
 $0.79

A talented enchanter can alter attitudes and emotions, convince them to change their opinions and behaviors, and even compel them to do things they normally would not do. Antagonists will seek to leverage the same effects, but their implementation won’t be as ethical as a protagonist’s. If they consider the ramifications of robbing another person of their agency at all, they won’t care. They will use this category of magic to control monsters, beasts, and people to fight their battles The behaviors they compel will be put to use furthering their selfish desires. A villain may even use enchantment as a...

Worldbuilding Power: Evocation
Regular price: $2.00
Bundle price:
 $0.79
Format:
 Watermarked PDF
Use energy-harnessing magic in character development, worldbuilding, and adventures! To evoke is to call forth and manipulate various types of energies and forces. These include fire, electricity, heat and cold, light and darkness, and even eldritch energy itself. It is the magic of raw power. Unlike other categories of magic, evocation comes with no innate moral and ethical considerations other than the way the caster chooses to wield it. Antagonists will seek to leverage the same forces, with intentions that are clearly not as ethically centered as a protagonist. They will use this category of magic to cause death and destruction, often on a mass scale. The energies they evoke will be put to use furthering their selfish desires. A villain will use evocation as a weapon in their per...

Worldbuilding Power: Necromancy
Regular price: $2.00
Bundle price:
 $0.79
Format:
 PDF
Use black magic in character development, worldbuilding, and adventures! Necromancy is magic that deals with the dead. That covers a lot of ground. It includes communicating with spirits as a form of divination. The unliving can be summoned, and usually commanded, by the caster. Raising the dead, as skeletons, zombies, or fully resurrected living beings is included in this category as well. That makes necromancers pretty powerful, not just in terms of game abilities but in story potential as well. The term necromancy comes from the Greek words nekrós, meaning "dead body", and manteía, "divination by means of". It’s often what people in the real world are referring to, albeit not always accurately, when they talk about black magic, witchcraft, or Sata...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
