Aether and Steamworks

Welcome to the brand new Tabletop Roleplaying Game, Aether and Steamworks.  This core rulebook contains everything necessary to create player characters, understand the basics of the universe and create adventures for parties to go on (recommended party sizes between 3 and 6 players and one GM).  This game uses a standard array of dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d100) and a simplified rolls mechanic involving 7 core statistics, variable location based damage and fast and dangerous combat mechanics.

The Aethersphere is in a shambles after the events of a Great war between the Elven Monarchy and the Dwarven Empire have mostly been resolved with the Empire now the new ruling faction over all the Folk.  As order is restored little by little, Nobles play games of favoritism and political intrigue while the general population strive to put food on their table, explore the unknown and invent new devices that make life easier.  Pirates fill the Void between worlds, the lands outside of Empire occupied cities are savage wildlands where the laws are written by the strong or manipulative.  It's time for groups of heroic individuals to set out to help right wrongs, save lives or just make a name for themselves.

Aether and Steamworks: 1st Edition includes:

  • A 358 page Core Rulebook with setting information for 7 worlds and the Void(Space), as well as story hooks for homebrew campaigns within the Universe, all by Ty Burruss.
  • A sliding scale Equivalence rates for monster and enemy creation to make encounters on the fly, with many Factions and Monsters in the Meta to be used as well.
  • A host of unique abilities that all help flesh out characters during their creation and through increasing in levels.
  • Pros and Cons Quirks that create unique character options that drive "forced RP" moments at times
  • 11 Familiar Races with unique and interesting spins, such as Silvershield Dwarves that use anti-magic equipment, Tyell Elves that live forever and are at the heart of the Rebellion against the Empire, Automata that are not given rights of Citizenry, Goblins that can't lie and occassionally have to deal with powerful impulsive natures, and many more.
  • 7 Distinct unique classes: The Jack (of all Trades) that focus on luck based smooth talking skills and can gain minor abilities of other classes, Aethermages that bend the universe to their will but sometimes goes horribly awry, Alchemists that change elements from one thing to another to accomplish their magic, Tinkers who create inventions for themselves and others to accomplish tasks, The Gifted who struggle with powerful entities to be granted or take power for themselves, Nobles with ties to political factions as well as massive wealth for modified equipment, and the Battle-Scarred veterans of wars that primarily focus in survival and combat prowess.

Aether and Steamworks can be used to create Heroic TV-show style adventures for a few simple Episodes (sessions) encounters (like a mini-series) or for Seasons (full multi-part campaigns) with an emphasis on player and GM freedom of expression.

The Messengers module for starting players coming soon.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
