“Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread.”

~ The Dunwich Horror by H.P. Lovecraft

Just beyond the outermost edges of charted space lies a forgotten nebula of immense size, invisible unless you know where to look. To the approaching watchful and knowing eye, the luminescent clouds of dust and ionized gases, swell into view, roiling in prismatic majesty and overripe with stars beyond reckoning. The stars within the system are flanked by rich worlds of wealth and mystery, paradises that are often fertile and well within habitable parameters. Most were one home to intelligent life, but now only silent ruins to suggest the dark truths lurking just beyond perception. Despite these subtle concerns, the march of colonization of The Widow’s Tear is on.

A 210 page, fully bookmarked and layered PDF, The Widow’s Tear is designed to be a “plug and play” setting you can easily drop into your own Starfinder game regardless of whether or not you are playing in the Starfinder universe, or in a world of your creation! You can use the entire nebula as is or pull any of the star systems, creatures, or races out and drop them right into your game! Likewise, all of the rules are modular, so you can use them however you like.

In this book you will find:

  • A detailed look at fourteen unique star systems

  • Twelve new races, plus information on the Drow and race statistics for Aasimar and Tieflings

  • A wealth of new creatures, starships and NPC’s!

  • A .zip file containing high resolution images of all the star system maps.

When can we expect the "Cults of the Widow's Tear" adventure that was mentioned in the kickstarter?

That sounds disappointing.
Guess it fell into a rift or some sort of dimensional tear.

Things have been pretty insane for me, both personally and professionally. I want to do it, but to be honest, every time I try and wrap my head around the cults, I end up staring at a blank document, and I don't really have the head space for Starfinder mechanics lately. Once I can get my plate cleared, I want to get back to this, but I just can't do it right now.

Congratulations on the release! I wasn't able to fund the kickstarter in time, but I've followed along. You worked so hard and long on this. Looking forward to picking it up.

A couple of things...

First, the text on many of the system maps is either difficult to read or unreadable. This is coupled with a lot of artifacts from compression.

As for the claim of 'You can use the entire nebula as is...', I don't see any sort of overall map of the nebula. Maybe I am missing it?

Thanks!

I dnn't have a map of the entire nebula, no...But that doesn't mean you can't use it.

As for the system maps, I'll see about making a .zip file with the high resolution maps and uploading it.

Thanks, David! The system maps will be appreciated.

As for the nebula map, it might be something to consider making. I am not aware of many sci-fi campaigns that do not have the structure provided by a star map. Anyone that purchases this as a campaign setting will first face mapping out where everything is in relationship to anything else.

I might get one... budgeting issues kept me from getting a big map done.

Perhaps just this little corner of the nebula will be sufficient. The larger map sounds like a bigger project to me.

Um, I bought this PDF on the merit for the cover of the book, and that it's from Gun Metal Games.

And, the cover isn't included with the file.

Will that be corrected?

ps. I am really enjoying the rest of the book, though.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
