A Devil’s Dozen:

Inns and Taverns

  1. 37 1/2 Abbott’s Alley - Between an antique bookshop and a cartographer is a staircase up to 37 1/2 Abbott’s Alley; favored hangout for scholars of all kinds.
  2. Inn the Dungeon - An inn in a once active dungeon. Painstaking efforts have gone into replicating the feel of a meeting place for adventurers. The experience comes complete with bar brawls.
  3. Off the Wagon - This makeshift bar operates out of a wagon, allowing the owners to move it from place to place.
  4. The Ball and Chain - An alehouse created to give other convicts a chance at a fresh start in life. Employees are offered lodging in return for the opportunity to learn a trade.
  5. The Bent Truncheon - A popular bar frequented by the town guards. Patrons include those of less than honorable professions, usually involving deals with less than reputable guardsmen.
  6. The Cat’s Cradle - Out of town, and off the beaten track, this inn is essentially a large, hidden treehouse, Patrons are by invitation only.
  7. The Crafty Crab - The best seafood tavern on the docks, its specialty is crab dishes of which there are several, along with other seafood meals and a complement of accompanying sauces.
  8. The Draggled Brogan - Its name comes from the many weary travelers who have stopped in on their way to or from the mines and other nearby locales.
  9. The Graveyard Shift - This bar opens late at night and closes before dawn. Popular rumor has it the bar is owned by a vampire and is a way of luring in unsuspecting victims.
  10. The Green Door - An unimpressive green door marks the entrance; it bears no name or number. It is invitation only; the location changes nightly; few know where the new location will be.
  11. The Hidden Meaning - To those in the know it is a meeting place a for the local Thieves' Guild; a place to lay low, sell merchandise, trade information, buy tools, and seek training.
  12. The Lounging Lizard - This bar depicts art featuring heroic scenes and victories with a common theme - the hero is a Lizardman, as is the owner of the bar.
  13. The Repast and Repose - A refined place for a wealthy traveler to enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep. There are rumors staff may take additional payment to fit in a patron or lose a reservation.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
