100 Rumours to Hear in Miskatonic Country

This is a collection of 100 rumours that investigators could hear in Miskatonic Country, specifically the towns of Arkham and Kingsport. The rumours assume that the 1920s is the setting used, though with tweaking some could be used in other periods. Whether or not a particular rumour is true or not is up to the Keeper. They could be used as a source of potential adventure hooks, as the rumours could describe potential Mythos activity. Alternatively, the rumours could be distorted, outright fabrications or simply derive from ordinary human criminal or otherwise activities.

Here are some sample results:

• Potter's Field in Arkham, the graveyard where those with few if any who care for them are laid to rest, has been seeing frequent disturbances recently. The graveyard isn't much visited, and the dead who would have regular visitors are interred elsewhere, but the occasional person does go there, as well as the occasional burial taking place. Those who do visit have said they have seen a number of recent graves showing signs of someone having dug them up.
• Recently, some students from Miskatonic University were discovered ritually sacrificing cats and dogs they had bought on the small, uninhabited island in the Miskatonic River. The students were discovered by the police and charges are pending, but some of the locals have claimed that something is going on there once again. They suspect another group of students are up to the same unchristian antics.
• Reyneaux's Antique Emporium in Kingsport, run by Paul Reyneaux, has reputedly just received some very unusual Oriental artefacts being sold by an estate of one of the minor shipping families of the area. There are said to be some very strange items within the collection, ones that are very rare and may even be one of a kind. Surprisingly, the antiques seem to be proving difficult to sell.
• Robert Valencia of The Radio Center in Arkham is a hobbyist with an interest in short wave radio. He owns a transmitter and receiver and is often on the airwaves at night, listening and communicating with other hobbyists. Recently, Valencia has apparently been picking up some strange signals during the night. Regular pulses, reminiscent of Morse code, but different in form. He has apparently tried to decipher the code but has been unable to do so; it seems to have no resemblance to any language Valencia is familiar with.
• Rumours about Mr. Pin, the Chinese tattooist in Arkham, are suggesting that he is not what he seems. That he has truck with strange foreign cults, often receiving odd items from other lands. That he never, ever sleeps or leaves his establishment. The rumours seem excessively suspicious at times, for how can anyone go without any sleep at all?
