Horradin (New Base Class)

Adapt. Evolve. Overcome.

Horradin are masters of an exotic art of temporary evolution; they are adaptable adventures that evolve to overcome any challenge! Less “mad alchemist” or arcane transmuter, horradins instead embody the power of magical creatures through the lens of forced adaptation. First developed from a study of molting insects, the magical art has advanced and taken on new aspects. By entering various ‘stages’ of a magically evolving form, a horradin is able to rapidly grow more powerful in combat or other dramatic situations.

  • Full Base Class: The full horradin base class for Pathfinder 1st Edition! It is a d12, full BAB, martial class that focuses on adaptive evolution and reaching increasingly more powerful forms during combat!
  • 5+ Evolutionary Branches: Try all of the various thematic forms of evolution! From the classic “insectoid” evolutions to the ki-blasting “power-up” style, the horradin covers a lot of ground!
  • 10 Adaptations: Modify your evolutions to match your wants and needs! Grow extra arms, change skin color like a chameleon, gain new senses, or become venomous. These are incorporated into your various evolutions.
  • 10+ Developments: If adaptations teach your horradin new ways to evolve, developments are new tactics and new ways to apply those evolutions!

  • Page Count: 20 (1 cover, 2 credits, 2 OGL, 15 content)
  • PDF Optimized Version: A high resolution (300 dpi) bookmarked PDF with beautiful art! This product includes a single-page and a spread version depending on how you want to read it!

What is the gist of the capstone? Also, is there a permanent creature type change at some point.

Greetings LRGG
Having read through the newly released Horradin (New Base Class), and enjoying it immensely, I realized that there was no method of having two adaptations active. Is this correct or did I miss something? In looking at the class I would think the ability to have up to two adaptations active is justifiable, especially via a feat tax. However, the second adaption should/maybe be capped at granting only 1st and 2nd form benefits. Any thoughts on this? Again, cheers for yet another fun base class. :)

That is correct.
Adaptations are meant to be not only a mechanical but thematic change to your form that you can rotate when they become relevant. A feat might be too little of an investment for a 2nd active adaptation (even with the restriction of 1st or 2nd level) as some can give stuff like +2 AC with light fortification, a size category increase, extra limbs, +10 on Stealth, etc and that's probably in excess of feat.

If you wanted to find something to exchange for that ability it'd probably have to be an archetype. Something like "you get your first 2 adaptations, but none of your later ones. In exchange, at 14th level you can have both of those active, though one can't be beyond it's 2nd form bonus. At 19th level they can both fully be active." That's exchange a bit of the versatility for the simultaneous benefits they provide. That's just off the cuff so I'd recommend playtesting that a bit before using it.

Thanks for the response Scott! I will whip up a new archetype and test it out. Cheers.

So this is what I have come up with (we'll see how this goes with some play-testing):
Lesser Adaptability: The horradins control over their own physiology has been so finely developed that they can, by selecting this development, have two adaptations active at once. However, the horradin must select this "secondary" adaptation when this development is taken and once chosen cannot be changed. Additionally, this development only grants the 1st form of the secondary adaptation. The horradin must be 7th level to select this development as well as possess the Endurance feat to select this power.

Adaptability: The horradin further unlocks the benefits of their secondary adaption and can now benefit from both the 1st and 2nd forms. The horradin must be 11th level to select this development and possess the lesser adaptability development to select this power.

Greater Adaptability: By pushing their body well beyond its mortal limits the horradin is now capable of benefiting from...See more

Odd. Looks like a holdover from an earlier draft. Everything is fixed.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
