Wilderness Puzzles

Can you brave the wild?

With Wilderness Puzzles, the very ground under your PCs’ feet IS the puzzle!

How it works:

The wilderness is full of dangers and opportunity. And your players must carefully study the lay of the land if they are to avoid certain death and triumph over their enemies. Only players who can figure out their surroundings can fully use them to their advantage.

What I like about this puzzle is that once it is finished, players will have laid out the wilderness terrain for a combat encounter that includes hard cover, soft cover and all kinds of hazards and advantages. Ideal for rogues, rangers, and any character who likes to fight smart. You can also use the wilderness terrain pieces to quickly create an interesting battlefield.

For more info on how this puzzle system works, please check out preview at the top of this page!

(Fair warning, if you plan to use the printed version this puzzle uses a lot of tiles. But the tiles can double as terrain even if you don’t use the puzzle.)

This pack comes with:

  • 9 unique wilderness terrain pieces.
  • 30 Wilderness Puzzles.
  • An instruction manual with printable puzzles.
  • Pieces for virtual tabletop play.

Wilderness puzzles works with any gaming system.

Thank you for the feedback.

To clarify, with each of my puzzle packs I try to create a different puzzle system. The puzzle system is explained in more detail in the preview and it says there are 30 puzzles of that type in the pack. I was wrong in assuming every customer reads the preview. So I'll certainly add that to the description, very helpfull feedback indeed!

As for my design choices, I'd like to explain a bit about my thinking.

The benefits of creating one puzzle system to me are that I can spend more time on creating artwork and the tile or key pieces can often be reused. That would be near impossible if each puzzle was a completely different concept. So with most other puzzle products, you get more different types of puzzles but little to no artwork. It's a trade-off.

Also, with one system I only have to explain the rules to players once. If they encounter the same type of puzzle later on, they can immediately get started. Another benefit is that I...See more

This is not a collection of 30 puzzles as is listed in the description, instead it is a set of a few simple images with 30 suggestions for how to order them. An interesting concept but fairly disappointing overall.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
