Baby Bestiary 5e Beast Companion

Watermarked PDF

Build, Raise & Rear

You've discovered the adorable and now it's time to bring those adorable creatures on your 5e adventures. This supplement will help you create critters to join you on your adventures and are also designed to level up with you as you go!

This book does not contain raw stats for every baby beastie imaginable, that would be far too much work. Instead what we did is created a system that allows you to easily build and improve a beast companion.

In addition, for those who want more beasts in their class design, we've also thrown in 3-beast driven sub-classes;

Druid - Circle of Summons
Fighter - Houndmaster
Wizard - Familiar Spellmaster

These are based on the award-winning books

Baby Bestiary Volume 1                                       Baby Bestiary Volume 2

Direct harm: At 14th level, as a reaction, you can redirect any damage you take to your familiar. This damage cannot exceed the familiar's maximum hit points + your Intelligence modifier.

But almost all familiars have no more than 1 hp. Are you sure this is good enough ability for 14th level? Or I misunderstanding something?

The design intention is tied to the fact that you can summon a familiar without expending a spell as a bonus action every round while using this archetype. It's a fairly powerful ability within context and is in line with other Wizard abilities of the same level, giving a replenishable amount of temporary hit points that *also* deals damage when the familiar explodes with "Explosive Dismissal." The powers all tie in to one another.

I hope a familiar sensing no much pain in this combination. For me who like Baby Bestiary and animal handling this thing looks a little horrible.

Since it's a magically summoned creature I've always considered it to be totally painless. Rest assured it just returns to its home and waits to be summoned again!

I have a problem with one of the pictures in my copy: on page 9, the picture of the sphinx is layered over the text to the left of it. Do you know of a fix for that?

Let me take a look, it was probably a layout mistake on my behalf and I apologize.
I should be pushing an update this weekend with a few other fixes.
Thanks for the feedback!

Something seems to be missing from the Wizard's Explosive Dismissal feature - how much damage does it do?

There's also some typing errors throughout the entire document, such as unfinished words in the middle of sentences. It easy to tell the person/people writing it got to a point where they have read it so often that it started to look right. You might want to get someone else to proofread the whole thing again. ;)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
